PORTUGAL GRAND PRIX: DOMINANT BEZZECCHI WINS AT PORTIMAO
Aprilia ace Marco Bezzecchi produced a flawless display to lead from lights to flag as he dominated the Portugal Grand Prix MotoGP race to claim his second win of the season.
After a strong performance that saw him claim pole position in qualifying, Bezzecchi didn't quite have the pace to carry him all the way to victory in Saturday's sprint. But after he and his Aprilia team made the necessary adjustments for the 25-lap Grand Prix race, Bezzecchi got the start he needed as he hit the front and was never headed during the race.
With Bezzecchi dominant out front, the battle for second took centre stage, as Alex Marquez held off a charging Pedro Acosta by six tenths of a second to claim the second step on the podium.
Bezzecchi's victory cemented his place in third place in the MotoGP championship, with his victory further enhanced by a nightmare race for former world champion Francesco Bagnaia, who crashed out of the race to hand Bezzecchi an almost unassailable advantage heading into the final round in Valencia next weekend.

MARQUEZ PUSHED TO THE LIMIT TO HOLD ON TO SECOND
Alex Marquez's front tyre was in tatters, but he managed to hang on to second place by pushing to the limit to hold off a charging Pedro Acosta in the final laps.

ACOSTA LOOKING FORWARD TO SEASON FINALE ON HOME SOIL
Pedro Acosta had to content himself with third place at Portimao, but he plans to finish the 2025 MotoGP season on a high with a big performance at home at Valencia.

GUINTOLI: BEZZECCHI DESERVES MORE PLAUDITS
TNT Sports pundit Sylvain Guintoli hailed Marco Bezzecchi's performance at Portimao, and said more credit needs to be given to the Italian racer, who seems to have built a great partnership at Aprilia to take himself from a fringe podium contender to a bona fide race winner.
"I don't think we're giving enough credit," he said.
"I think Bezzecchi is a very special rider. Obviously, he's found a really great home in Aprilia, but he's outstanding. The way he rides is unbelievable.
"Today he just almost made it (look) easy. The bike was so planted. Beautiful riding style, you know, elbow down in that last turn, fourth gear. Always placed beautifully. Not one wheel out of shape. So, yeah, fair play to Marco Bezzecchi, what a performance."

LAVERTY: BEZZECCHI'S DOMINANT WIN 'A BIG STATEMENT'
TNT Sports pundit Michael Laverty said that the performance by Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia across the weekend showed that both rider and team had elevated their game to the very top of the sport following the Italian's dominant victory at Portimao.
"We knew overnight they'd made a big step," said Laverty after the race.
"The lap time he was able to pull out of the bag this morning in cool conditions and warm up, there was always a question mark that that was done with a soft front (tyre), and that everyone was racing the hard front.
"But once the lights went out, he got that initial advantage. Then he just kept his head down, so precise all race long, and he ran out a comfortable victory, the most dominant of the season. Yes, he won at Silverstone, but he sort of inherited it with Fabio (Quartararo's) ride height device (malfunction) on the day.
"So, that's a big statement for Aprilia and Bezzecchi right now."

GUINTOLI HAILS BEZZECCHI PACE, APRILIA TWEAKS
TNT Sports pundit Sylvain Guintoli paid tribute to both Marco Bezzecchi and his Aprilia team for how they continually improved the bike over the course of the weekend, and make the tweaks that mattered after the Sprint race, to help take him to victory in the MotoGP race at Portimao.
"He knew he had the pace, and he just executed perfectly. He had Pedro Costa right behind him, and yeah, he just shut those doors. And then once he could do his rhythm comfortably, it was just impressive," he said.
"The bike looks so settled again, Aprilia, they're delivering the performance over the weekend, getting better and better and better.
"Friday, the bike looked ... very sort of nervous. And you finish the weekend, and everything is really, really planted. So master performance from Bezzecchi and Aprilia again."

ACOSTA BEMOANS LACK OF EARLY RACE PACE
Pedro Acosta explained how a lack of early-race pace cost him dear at Portimao today.
"I was really trying, but I died just at the end, like yesterday with Alex. But anyway, we have to be happy," he said.
"We are missing a lot of pace and a lot of traction at the beginning of the race. It doesn't matter how much we manage the tyre for the end. If we are missing (pace) at the beginning, we lose anyway."

MARQUEZ: 'THEY WERE BETTER THAN US EVERYWHERE'
Alex Marquez admitted second place was the best he could manage against dominant Marco Bezzecchi at Portimao.
"We saw it already this morning, that (Bezzecchi's team) did a big step compared to yesterday," he explained after his second-place finish.
"Marco, especially in some sectors, did a really good step, and they were better than us. I mean, they were better than us everywhere."

BEZZECCHI CELEBRATES 'FANTASTIC RACE'
Race winner Marco Bezzecchi said: "Very happy. It was a fantastic race for me. This morning, I felt better, and yesterday evening, we worked a lot in the box to try to find that last step that we missed (in the Sprint race).
"I was super afraid from Pedro and Alex, because yesterday they were super quick, but I was also very motivated to try to get a win, and the boys made a fantastic job. I'm very happy. Super important to be back on the top of the podium, and I enjoyed a lot."

EMOTIONAL OLIVEIRA BOWS OUT
It wasn't the result he would have wanted in his final MotoGP race on home soil, but Miguel Oliveira still got the send-off he deserved from the Portuguese fans as he flew the flag on his cool-down lap.
His 14th-place finish won't make any headlines, but his emotional send-off mean the world to him.
His time in MotoGP may be coming to an end this season, but we'll still see him on track in world-class racing next year – he's joining the factory BMW team in the World Superbike Championship next season.

BEZZECCHI WINS AT PORTIMAO!
What a ride from Marco Bezzecchi, who leads from lights to flag to claim a dominant victory at Grand Prix Portugal.
Alex Marquez holds off the charging Pedro Acosta to take second.

LAST LAP!
Marco Bezzecchi starts the last lap with a three-second lead, but all eyes are on second, with Pedro Acosta just 0.6 seconds behind Alex Marquez.
Acosta probably needs another lap or two, but rest assured he'll wring the neck of his KTM to give himself every chance to steal second here.
22/25
HERE COMES ACOSTA!
Pedro Acosta can smell a second-place finish. He's taking chunks out of Alex Marquez's advantage, with the KTM man looking to squeeze every bit of pace out of his tyres before the end of this race.
A super-slo-mo of Marquez's bike shows that his front tyre is in tatters, which explains why the gap is coming down so quickly. That gap is down to 1.1 seconds.
We could be in for a grandstand finish, after all!

MARINI CHASES A TOP 10 FINISH
Honda's Luca Marini has just passed Jack Miller to take 11th, and will set his sights on Pol Espargaro as he bids to claim a late top-10 finish.
Looking down the field, gaps have started to appear between the bikes, meaning that the potential for last-lap drama might not be as high as we'd hoped, but you never know in in MotoGP...

IN A CLASS OF THEIR OWN
The front three look pretty set heading into the final five laps of this race.
  • Marco Bezzecchi has a commanding 3.2-second lead
  • Alex Marques is three seconds clear in second
  • Pedro Acosta has a 6.6-second cushion in third
It looks like the late-race drama will come from further down the field, as the battle for points continues in the lower end of the top 10.

BEZZECCHI TURNS UP THE PACE
A one-second lead clearly wasn't enough for Marco Bezzecchi. The Italian has found another gear and has pulled his gap out to 1.9 seconds as he tightens his grip on the race.
The onus is now on Marquez to gradually reel him back in to set up a late charge for the win, but on this evidence, Bezzecchi appears to be holding all the aces.

BAGNAIA CRASHES OUT!
The former world champion is down and out! Bagnaia loses the front end and ends up in the kitty litter after a high-speed off. It's another disappointing day at the office for Pecco, who has really struggled to find his mojo this season.
The off-season break really can't come quickly enough for him, so he can recharge and bounce back in 2026.
