How can Marc Marquez win the MotoGP title in Japan?
Marquez is currently 191 points ahead of his brother Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) in the riders' standings ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix of Japan.
With six races to go, the advantage at the top means Marc Marquez can win the title in Motegi.
To do so, he needs to score three more points than his brother over the weekend.
That can take place in a range of scenarios, but he has already added nine points over Alex with his second-place finish in the Sprint.
In such a scenario, Marc Marquez would win the title regardless of where his brother finishes.
MotoGP standings ahead of Grand Prix of Japan on Sunday (includes Sprint results)
| Rider | Points |
| 1. Marc Marquez | 521 |
| 2. Alex Marquez | 330 |
| 3. Francesco Bagnaia | 249 |
| 4. Marco Bezzecchi | 229 |
| 5. Pedro Acosta | 195 |
Marc Marquez will feel confident about his chances due to his successful record at the Grand Prix of Japan.
He has three MotoGP victories at the track and five overall if you include his time as a rider in Moto2 and 125cc.
A seventh world title would put Marc Marquez level with fellow MotoGP great Valentino Rossi.
Alex Marquez is in a strong position to secure second spot, which would be his best finish in a MotoGP season.
