BEZZECCHI BROUGHT GLORY FOR APRILIA WHILE DUCATI STRUGGLE AT SILVERSTONE
It was a wonderful day for Aprilia as Marco Bezzecchi brought them their first win this season, as well as his first win in two years after he proved victorious at a chaotic Silverstone race.
Bezzecchi finished ahead of Johann Zarco, who stands on his second podium this season due to a magnificent drive that saw him push his soft tyres to the limit on the low-grip circuit.
Marc Marquez brought Ducati Lenovo to the podium with a third-place finish, but he was severely disappointed in their performance at the British Grand Prix as the medium tyres did not impress.
Both Marquez brothers crashed out of the early stages of the race, but a red flag was called on Lap 2 which permitted all riders to restart, including the Marquez’s and Franco Morbidelli.
Marc still holds the championship lead but his frustrations with Ducati are apparent, as teammate Francesco Bagnaia also crashed out of the race due to cold medium tyres.

BEZZECCHI: "WE NEVER GAVE UP"
Marco Bezzecchi has claimed his first win since India 2023 with a beautiful race around the Silverstone Circuit. He put himself in the desirable position to inherit the lead from pole-sitter Franco Morbidelli, and become the fifth different race winner of the season.
Bezzecchi said: "It's amazing, it has been a really tough time for me in this past month, but I started a new adventure.
"Aprilia really trusted in me, and we worked really hard.
"Of course, we've been through some tough, tough periods, also in the past races, but we never gave up, and the team did a wonderful job - the whole factory.
"I want to say thanks to them, but also I want to say thanks to my family and all my real friends that stayed close to me in all these tough moments.
"I was waiting for a day like this since my last win. So yeah, feels amazing. I'm very happy."

ZARCO: "I EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT THE VICTORY"
Johann Zarco earned a second-place finish at Silverstone after starting in ninth place, the French rider held onto the position despite his soft tyre graining proving to be more challenging than ever.
Zarco said: "I can't believe it. It was a very special race.
"It was good to have a second start because on the first half, I needed to get some pace, but I wanted to control my rear tyre and the other was quite strong.
"But on the second start, I got the first three corners kind of perfectly, and again, many positions.
"And then I saw the Ducati guys, looking scared with the front, and they could not push a lot.
"So I tried to gain the position when it was possible, because also, I know Jack is also pretty strong at the beginning.
"And then I was on the podium and tried to keep the pace.
"Bezzecchi was very strong, and when I saw Fabio have a technical problem, I even thought about the victory.
"I say, maybe Bezis is going away, but it will trigger more than me with the tyre so I can't win another race.
"But I have problem with the front also the rear was skidding.
"So the last laps, I tried to control the comeback of Marc, and I'm so happy that I did it."

MARQUEZ: "WE WERE LUCKY, I AM ANGRY AT MYSELF"
Marc Marquez was one of the four riders to crash out of the original race start, slipping off track due to an oil spill caused by the contact between Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro. Marquez was cleared for the restart and managed to salvage a second-place finish, but he was certainly bothered by the Ducati's performance in Silverstone.
Marquez said: "Today, we were lucky.
"Lucky, because I made the mistake on that first race, and I am angry at myself for that.
"The rest, okay, we saved the day."

BEZ BECOMES FIFTH WINNER OF THE SEASON
Aprilia have celebrated their first victory this season with Marco Bezzecchi basking in glory under the British sun, becoming the fifth different winner of the year. Bezzecchi inherited the lead from pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo, who slowed down and suffered an issue with his rear ride height device during the race, losing his five-second lead to the Aprilia.
This is the first race of the season that has displayed the strengths of the non-Ducati bikes, with three Japanese manufacturers occupying the top five spots at some points in the race. Marc Marquez managed to recover well to third place but severely struggled after his crash before the restart.

BEZZECCHI CLAIMS FIRST VICTORY SINCE 2023
Marco Bezzecchi claimed his first victory since India 2023 with a spectacular performance in Silverstone, benefiting from Fabio Quartararo's heartbreak that saw him crash out of the race. Johann Zarco finished in second place despite his spoiled soft tyres while Marc Marquez triumphed over Franco Morbidelli for a podium spot during their fierce final-lap fight.

BEZZECCHI CLOSE TO CLAIMING SILVERSTONE LEAD
The gap between Johann Zarco and Marc Marquez decreased with each lap, lowering it to 1.6s by Lap 17 but it may not be enough for the factory Ducati rider to claim second place. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi pulled 4.5s away from Zarco in the lead of the British Grand Prix.
Alex Marquez and Jack Miller have been going at it for practically the entire race, swapping positions again through Vale as Miller reclaims fifth place. However, Marquez snatched the position back through Copse and allowed Pedro Acosta to snatch seventh place from Miller.
Despite the better grip of the medium tyres, the risk is too great for Marc Marquez to make any crazy moves on Zarco. Marquez was still a second behind Zarco on Lap 18, with little hopes of closing it down. Franco Morbidelli has crept up on Marquez, and snatched the place around Village until Marquez reclaimed it just a corner later.

BEZZECCHI INHERITS LEAD AFTER QUARTARARO SLOWS
Fabio Quartararo lost the lead of the race and slowed down through Maggotts and Becketts, running off track towards Chapel as the lead was handed to Marco Bezzecchi. Quartararo is predicted to have suffered a mechanical failure and retires from the race.
Bezzecchi was four-tenths quicker than the second-runner Johann Zarco on the previous lap but Marc Marquez looks as strong as ever heading into Lap 14. The factory Ducati rider has managed to cut the gap down to Zarco to just 2.2s from four.
Riders who opted for the soft tyres seem to be regretting the choice by Lap 14 as the graining is more apparent than usual on the low-grip surface. Silverstone is particularly challenging through corners like Maggotts, Becketts, and Vale as they require precision and grip through the high-speed turns.
With five laps to go, Bezzecchi leads the pack around Silverstone ahead of Zarco and Marquez. Alex Marquez has recovered to sixth place but the battle for the lead is long gone for the Gresini rider.

DUCATI SPEEDING UP AS MEDIUMS COME BACK TO LIFE
It looked like the medium tyres were beginning to see some life by Lap 9 as the Ducati riders started to pick up the pace and climb the ranks. Both Marc and Alex Marquez climbed up to sixth and seventh place by Lap 9 before Marc stormed past Jack Miller through the end of the straight. His teammate Francesco Bagnaia sat in the Ducati garage after a crash left him out of the race.
By Lap 10, Fabio Quartararo held a 4.5s lead to Marco Bezzecchi who was running quickest of them all in second place. Johann Zarco retained a third place position but looked increasingly vulnerable as the soft tyre performance began to drop off.
Marc Marquez was gaining speed on each lap, improving on the straights as the Ducati began to find its power in the halfway point of the race. Running in fifth place on Lap 11, the victory could be in reach for Marquez as the front-runners' softs were predicted to disintegrate in a few laps.
Marquez tailed Franco Morbidelli through Maggotts and Becketts then pulled off the overtake by Chapel, gaining another position before he sped off on the straight. The factory Ducati rider climbed up to fourth place by Lap 12.

QUARTARARO COMFY IN LEAD WHILE FIGHT FOR PODIUM SPOTS IS ALIVE
Fabio Quartararo retained his lead heading into Lap 6, pulling 4.5s away from Jack Miller in second place. The Yamaha rider managed to recover his lead after the Ducati riders fell out of sight, with Alex Marquez in fifth place and his brother Marc in eighth.
The windy conditions are perfect for the Yamaha riders using the soft front tyre, offering much better grip and traction than the mediums which caused three crashes before the red flag. Ducati have opted for the less desirable tyre choice in the medium but it has been noted that the softs have yet to complete a full race distance.
A fierce battle for second place unfolded on Lap 7 between Marco Bezzecchi and Jack Miller, with Bezzecchi pulling off an overtake on Miller through the Hangar straight. The riders seem to struggle through Maggotts and Becketts as the high-speed corners require a perfect balance between grip and precision.
Alex Marquez was struggling in sixth place on Lap 8 as he fought tooth and nail to make those medium tyres work. He was joined by his brother on the entry to Copse corner after Marc overtook Joan Mir for eighth place. Miller and Alex engaged in another battle for a potential podium position, swapping places through the straight and into the left-hander.

BAGNAIA CRASHES OUT WHILE JAPANESE BIKES LEAD
The Ducati riders seem to be struggling with the soft front tyre as both Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez ran wide heading into Copse corner on Lap 3. They have fallen down to ninth and 10th place in a shocking Silverstone outing from the championship leaders.
Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo is comfortably leading the British Grand Prix on his Yamaha with a half-a-second advantage to the best of the rest. The Japanese manufacturers are dominating the race with Jack Miller running in second place, and Johann Zarco in third place.
Although he was playing it safe, Bagania crashed out of the race in Sector 2 on Lap 4 and skid off the track into the run-off area. The Ducati bike is just not gelling with the Silverstone surface despite being the strongest on track previously.

BAGNAIA NAILS THE RESTART BUT QUARTARARO RECOVERS
All 22 riders have been cleared for the restart after an oil spill caused a red flag, by virtue of collision between Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro at Vale.
Alex Marquez got off to another great start off the line but he played it safe when heading into Vale, and Francesco Bagnaia overtook the Gresini rider around the first corner. The Ducati riders held the lead until the straight until the pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo reclaimed his lead and led the pack through Chapel towards the Hangar straight and Stowe corner.
There was a brief tussle between Johann Zarco and Alex Marquez, after the younger Marquez brother fell down to sixth place on the restart. Zarco managed to jump the Gresini rider and claim sixth place around Maggotts, putting Marquez under pressure from Luca Marini.
His brother was struggling to retain third place ahead, as Jack Miller stormed past Marc Marquez on Lap 2 while heading into the third corner. Three Japanese manufacturers occupy spots in the top five at this point during the race. Yamaha leads the British Grand Prix with Quartararo's excellent recovery, while Miller sits in second place ahead of Zarco in third. Zarco managed to pull off a double overtake on the factory Ducati riders for the position in the lead up to Chapel.

MARQUEZ CRASHES OUT OF THE RACE
Marc Marquez has crashed out of the race on Lap 2 after heading into Copse corner with another case of a cold tyre. The factory Ducati rider slid out of the corner and lost the lead of the race to Fabio Quartararo, bringing out red flags on just the second lap. He managed to recover the bike and head to the pitlane ahead of the restart.
The medium front tyres are clearly the culprit, as each of the crashes was due to the lack of temperature in the tyres. Franco Morbidelli also had a slip-up, with contact between him and Aleix Espargaro causing oil to be dripped onto the circuit at Vale.
There will be a full restart after debris has been cleared from the track due to three full laps not being completed due to the crashes. Original grid positions will be restored on the restart, including both Marquez brothers because the race leader did not complete three full laps of racing before the red flag was called.

LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY MARC GOES
Alex Marquez got off to a blisteringly quick start to the British Grand Prix, overtaking polesitter Fabio Quartararo in the run-up to the first corner, but suffered from an ice-cold tyre that threw him out of the race at Abbey.
His brother Marc Marquez snatched the lead from Quartararo before the first turn and managed to lead the pack through Lap 1 as his teammate fought behind the Yamaha. The hopes for a Marquez 1-2 has been lost in Britain, which gives Bagnaia a great chance to pick up some points in the riders' standings.

FIVE MINUTES TO GO…
It is a breezy day at Silverstone with a chance of rain looming over the iconic Midlands circuit. It has been raining on and off all weekend so far, so the riders will be lucky if they escape the downpour. There are just five minutes to go until racing commences at the British Grand Prix. The track temperature is 31°C while the wind is beginning to pick up.

QUARTARARO’S COMEBACK
The 2021 world champion earned a hat-trick of pole positions for the first time since 2021, with a pole in Jerez, Le Mans, and now Silverstone. However, Fabio Quartararo was unlucky during yesterday’s sprint race at Silverstone and fell to seventh place after a drop-off in tyre wear.
A handful of riders, including the championship leader Marc Marquez, reported that the low-grip conditions were eating up their tyres throughout the sprint. For Quartararo, the issue was with the grip on his rear soft tyre.
Quartararo said: "I expected to be faster but the grip for us was clearly really critical and I could not be fast," he told the media on Saturday at Silverstone.
"We had a lot of chatter. It was a big gap between the feeling of this morning and the feeling this afternoon. And this has been a little bit of an unusual feeling, and we don’t understand why. So we have to understand this, especially on the low-grip tracks."

MARQUEZ FINALLY UNDERSTANDING BAGNAIA’S DUCATI PROBLEM
Marc Marquez has been basking in the glory of an early championship lead before the British Grand Prix, with six sprint victories and three Grand Prix wins so far this season. His dominant form was expected to continue in the Silverstone sprint race, but his brother, Alex, stole the spotlight yesterday.
A tricky qualifying session saw Marquez fail to secure a front row start for the first time this year, as well as a dip in performance during the sprint race. Marquez’s teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, has been struggling with the tyre wear, balance, and turning of the factory Ducati bike all season, and this is the first time Marquez has joined his suffering.
Marquez claimed that he tried four different setups for the British Grand Prix sprint, and the problems with turning and balance were still present. The six-time world champion was passed by his brother during the sprint and was unable to challenge him for the lead after his tyres began to drop off.
For the full race this afternoon, Marquez hopes to alter his ‘riding style’ to secure a win.

WHAT MORE DOES ALEX NEED TO DO?
Gresini rider Alex Marquez has been in spectacular form since the start of the 2025 season. Off the bat, he performed extraordinarily well on the Ducati and showed that he is in it for the win. Marquez claimed his maiden premier class victory in Jerez after earning three consecutive podiums in the opening rounds.
The younger Marquez brother has been slowly closing the gap to his brother, Marc, in the riders’ standings. Marc Marquez has clearly been the man to beat this season with three victories and a podium under his belt in just seven rounds so far. However, with Alex slowly creeping up the ranks, Marc has a lot to think about.
With Alex’s glorious sprint victory yesterday, he has been deemed the favourite for the British Grand Prix win. Speaking to TNT Sports, Michael Laverty said: "He [Alex] has been confident from the outset, but the composure he showed in the race, to have the pressure from Marc, and just keep chipping away at those lap times.
"You could see the gap going up on his pit board. He controlled it. In the end, a comfortable victory. Again, he won here comfortably in the wet. He was just so good, those fast right-handers [were] really working for him."

BRITISH GLORY: SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT
Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits in all of motorsport, no matter how many wheels are on track. MotoGP races on the full 5.9km track with 10 right-handers and eight left-handers. Situated in the ‘motorsport valley’ in the UK Midlands, fans can expect rainy and breezy conditions for most of the year.
The circuit opened the Formula 1 championship in 1950 after being converted from a runway to a race track. Silverstone has been modified over time, with the most notable changes in 1991 and 1994 after tragedies necessitated the demand for new ‘slowing’ chicanes at Woodcote. Despite the modifications, Silverstone is still one of the fastest circuits in motorsport.
Historic features like Maggots, Becketts, and Abbey bring challenges to riders with intense high-speed corners leading into long straights. Silverstone offers many overtaking opportunities along the Hangar and Wellington Straights, as well as a tricky hairpin at Vale that forces riders to master their bikes’ balance and grip.
