Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Deniz Oncu defeated Italtrans Racing Team's Diogo Moreira by the tiniest of margins as he won a Moto2 race with a historically small gap at Grand Prix Aragon on Sunday.
Moreira began in pole position and led for the early section of the first lap, but Oncu and Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing) swept through.
Baltus then leapfrogged Oncu, and Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) pushed from fourth spot to dislodge first Moreira, and then Oncu.
In lap eight, Oncu recovered his pace and went past Canet, and Moreira waited another two laps to get back third place.
Oncu pushed hard for pole once again and had whittled away Baltus’ lead by the 13th lap, and moved into first spot.
Moreira mounted his own comeback to usurp Batlus and - briefly - Oncu to regain the top spot, only for the 21-year-old Turkish rider to battle back into pole.
The two fighters had a gap of just 0.261 seconds with two laps to go, and the Brazilian was pushing hard to find a way through before the chequered flag.
On the last lap, Moreira was half a second quicker than Oncu and appeared set for a hard-fought victory as he overtook his rival with just a few corners remaining.
With the two riders side by side and little contact between them, the pair crossed the line imperceivably close together.
Only after the official times were published was it clear that Oncu had emerged victorious - by just 0.003s.
