Fermin Aldeguer confirmed as new Ducati rider for coming 2025 season as he makes step up to MotoGP

Moto2 rider Fermin Aldeguer will step up to MotoGP for the 2025 season after signing with Ducati.

Aldeguer, 18, had been expected to move up for some time, but his team was confirmed on Monday ahead of this weekend’s Portimao MotoGP race, which will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Aldegeur, who is reportedly set to join Ducati’s main satellite team Pramac, won the last four races of the previous season.

He had been linked with a switch to MotoGP outfit VR46 in the summer to replace Luca Marini, but his current team, Speed Up Racing, were reportedly unwilling to let him out of his contract prematurely.

"I am thrilled with this agreement because Aldeguer is one of the strongest riders in the new generation of MotoGP," Ducati general manager Gigi Dall'Igna said of the move.

"Over the last few years, we have followed his evolution; during the last season, he showed incredible speed.

"He is a very young guy with the potential and characteristics to do well, and we will give him all the technical support to help him grow."

If Aldeguer joins Pramac, one of their current line-up of Jorge Martin and Franco Morbidelli will have to leave to make room.

Martin was second in the MotoGP championship last year behind champion Francesco Bagnaia.

"Thanks to Ducati, I'll realise the dream I've pursued since childhood," said Aldeguer.

"The time has arrived to take the big leap and compete with the world's finest riders, and what's more, I'll be doing it with the best bike on the grid.

"Now that I know what the future holds, it's time to focus solely on this season, where I face a significant challenge in Moto2.

“I'll give my all to leave this category with my head held high, aiming for the best possible results before embarking on the new adventure in MotoGP."
