Fabio Di Giannantonio secured his second pole position in a row as he posted the quickest lap during qualifying at Grand Prix United States on Saturday.
He put down a lap time of 2:00.136 seconds to start from the front of the grid in the day’s later Sprint race, and he will keep that advantage for Sunday’s full-length race, both shown live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
The VR46 Ducati rider was also quickest last weekend in Brazil, a race which was won by Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, whose own streak consists of four consecutive Grand Prix victories.
Bezzecchi was second quickest in qualifying, though he ended the session under investigation for potentially blocking current world champion, Ducati Lenovo’s Marc Marquez, who was sixth fastest, giving him the final spot on the second row on the grid.
He had an underwhelming race last time in Brazil, starting in third spot in a Grand Prix weekend blighted by poor weather and the surprise appearance of a sinkhole on the main straight, and dropping down to fourth come the end of the race.
Marquez had given spectators a fright on Friday with a crash at a speed well over 100 miles an hour, though he was able to walk away with little more than bruising to his right hand and is able to compete.

The Spaniard is also under investigation for his own potential block on Enea Bastianini of KTM Tech3, who finished as the 12th quickest rider on the day.
Pedro Acosta (KTM) was third fastest, while there was an upturn in form for Francesco Bagnaia.
After struggling to such an extent early in the season that TNT Sports pundit Neil Hodgson said he was close to giving up hope for a comeback from the struggling factory Ducati rider, the former world champion was fourth quickest, ahead of his team-mate Marquez, who bested him for the world title last season.
Joan Mir of Honda was fifth quickest. The third row was made up of Jorge Martin (Aprilia), Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini) and Luca Marini (Honda) in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini) took the final spot in the top 10.
There was no spot for Maverick Vinales as the KTM Tech3 rider confirmed he would not take part in the weekend’s action due to a shoulder problem.
The Spaniard will instead take advantage of the postponement of the Qatar Grand Prix, which will now take place in November due to the current political situation in the Middle East.
