Abe is looking for another strong performance aboard the Yamaha Factory YZR-M1 four-stroke.

The 27-year-old was drafted into the Fortuna Yamaha Team at the eleventh hour as a replacement for the injured Marco Melandri in Suzuka, where he finish 11th. Abe remained with the team for the South African MotoGP, coming in a respectable eight.

Abe's other appearance this season saw him take a creditable points finish in his four-stroke wildcard debut at Le Mans in the French GP.
