Parnasse makes statement on UFC debut

French star Salahdine Parnasse could not have made a more impressive debut as he dismantled top-10 ranked lightweight Dan Hooker and won by a brutal round-one knockout at UFC Fight Night in Paris.

The Lion of Atlas, a former KSW two-weight champion, was given the honour of headlining his debut and proved more than worthy.

A devastating liver kick saw Hooker noticeably wilt and a head kick followed by a hook saw the New Zealander fall to the mat and a couple of blows later the fight was called off.

Afterwards, Parnasse set his sights on a meeting with UFC legend Max Holloway, who is currently number four in the lightweight rankings.

Michael 'Venom' Page continued his winning streak when edging Uzbek fighter Nursulton Ruziboev on points (29-28 on all three cards) in a middleweight bout, but it was not a display which impressed the watching audience.

Another Frenchman produced a dramatic knockout as Axel Sola beat compatriot Fare Ziam in the co-main event.

Sola nailed Ziam with a southpaw left hand which saw Ziam knocked out before he hit the mat.

Elsewhere, Liverpool's Kurtis Campbell dominated Trevor Peek in their featherweight contest, submitting the American in the third round but Nathaniel Wood lost his prelim bout in the same division on points to Pavel Andrusca.

Bisping: He is championship material

Former middleweight champion Mike Bisping declares Salahdine Parnasse a future UFC belt-holder.

"The French know it, they know they have another future champion on their hands," Bisping says.

"He has put the lightweight division on notice."

"I finish all my fights by KO so I knew I was going to do that," Parnasse said

"The next fight, I want top five."

After beating the number-ten ranked lightweight he wants to move quickly towards a title shot. And you can see him doing just that.

Wow! A quiet first minute before they exchange kicks with Parnasse's looking the more brutal. He catches Hooker with a flurry upstairs before a kick to the liver sees the New Zealander wilt. Immediately, Parnasse senses weakness and slams in a kick upstairs followed by left hook which sends Hooker down and a couple of shots later the fight is over.

What a chance for Salahdine Parnasse (23-2) as he takes on Kiwi Dan Hooker (24-14) in his UFC debut.

Sola KOs Ziam in Round 1

Ziam lands powerful kicks to legs and body early but Sola caught his opponent a couple of times coming in, which served as foreshadowing. Soon afterwards, Sola produced a brutal southpaw left hand down the pipe which saw Ziam knocked out before he hit the floor.

It is an all-France lightweight contest with Fares Ziam taking on Axel Sola.

MVP wins on points

Page takes the fight 29-28 on all three cards. That is a surprise. He looks a bit sheepish.

MVP-Ruziboev: Round 3

Page lands an overhand right early and nods at Ruziboev to goad him about it. Ruziboev again manages to lift Page's left leg and drops him down to the mat. Again, Page uses the fence to get up but the Uzbeki retains his hold. Ruziboev catches Page with a low blow which helped him get free. From this point onward Page dances but doesn't land a great deal, with the most telling blow a counter right from Ruziboev. He misses a spinning kick and the round ends with them holding each other against the fence.

Can't see MVP getting this verdict.

MVP-Ruziboev: Round 2

Page controls the early going but doesn't land too much until a fine stabbing kick to the thigh. Ruziboev then lunges at Page but falls on the mat. He shows control by making his opponent miss but is caught in a clinch midway through the round. Page relinquishes it and then switch hits over the next minute before Ruziboev grabs a leg and after walking around the Octagon puts MVP down, but only for a moment. MVP lands an overhand right and a spinning elbow in the last 30 seconds, but will need more in the last.

MVP-Ruziboev: Round 1

The Uzbek fighter catches MVP a bit cold, taking him down immediately and tries to set up a choke. Page avoids that but stays on his back until he final two minutes when he slides back to the fence. He gets to his feet but remains in a clinch. In the final 30 seconds, MVP releases the hold and lands a couple of blows but undoubtedly he lost the round.

Donchenko wins on points

He takes the fight 30-27 (twice) and 29-28.

Donchenko-Soriano: Round 3

Donchenko throws a blistering combination in the first minute and although Soriano caught most on the arms, it did open up a little cut under his eye. Soriano brings the Ukraine fighter to the deck and locksin leg lock which Donchenko desperately lands elbows on the American to try to break. Soriano continues to risk elbows as he took his opponent back to the mat, but not for long. Soriano keeps his back though and lands painful blows to the head before carrying him to the other side of the Octagon. It's the American's round but the Ukrainian's fight.

Donchenko-Soriano: Round 2

A strangely slow round given the action in the previous one, with both fairly cagey. Soriano gets a little time to recover from a low blow. Soriano was the aggressor but did not land a great deal with a couple of Donchenko flurries from the back foot the most notable blows. Soriano lands an uppercut and a take down in the final moments, then an uppercut as Donchenko got back to his feet.

Donchenko-Soriano: Round 1

Donchenko's superiority standing up is immediately clear, early on he lands a couple of telling crosses, plus good front kicks. Soriano tries a on-legged take-down but the Ukrainian's defence is sound. Soon afterwards a right hand sends the American to the deck and he has to withstand a couple of elbows for good measure. Mixing shots to head and body Soriano's defence is depleted and Donchenko begins to land at will. As the pace lessens, Soriano regains his composure and lands a couple of shots himself - but a big round for Donchenko.

Campbell submits Peek in Round 3

Peek comes out with more offense in the first minute, landing a couple of strikes but then Campbell puts him in a waist lock and brings him down to the mat a couple of times. By stealth he squeezed the fight out of Peek and then made him tap with a body triangle. Campbell has a word with Peek afterwards - a reminder of the latter's pre-fight trash talk no doubt.

Campbell-Peek: Round 2

Peek succeeds in getting close to Campbell and moving to prevent the Brit from causing damage in the first half of the round. That said, it is simply an act of preservation and in the second half of the round as the crowd boo, the Brit lands more and attempts a choke hold but the paying fans want more.

Campbell-Peek: Round 1

Campbell starts controlling the fight from distance and lands a number of impressive front kicks. Peek looks to charge forward to get in close but leaves himself vulnerable and a left hand from the Scouser leaves him with a cut above his right eye. Campbell takes Peek's back a couple of minutes in, lands a brutal knee to the American's head, then takes him down to the canvas. Ground and pound adds to the facial damage and each time Peek pushes him off, Campbell regains control. The fight could have been stopped already.

Keita wins by knockout in Round 1

Keita stalks Naimov from the off, looking really sharp with his striking and immediately cuts Naimov above his right eye. Keita drops Naimov with a powerful jab and follows up with a right hand before landing elbows on the floor. The Tajikstan fighter just survives that moment but shortly afterwards Keita ends the show with a stunning right cross.
