Pereira wins rematch in devastating fashion

Alex Pereira regained the UFC Light Heavyweight title in dramatic style, winning by TKO over Magomed Ankalaev in the first round.
After appearing subdued in his shock defeat to Ankalaev in March, which the Brazilian blamed on a virus, he visibly came out with a purpose.
Poatan landed with both hands in the opening seconds, forcing Ankalaev backwards, which he didn’t do at all in the first contest, then put him down with an overhand right just over a minute into the contest.
Ankalaev got his hands up to defend the ground and pound, but Pereira mixed up vicious elbows to body and head, leading the referee to step in.
In the co-main event, Merab Dvalishvili defended his title by defeating Cory Sandhagen on points.
Sandhagen won the first round, but Dvalishvili responded with a huge second round, landing 40 blows and sending his opponent down to the canvas.
Thereafter, Dvalishvili relied on his takedowns, recording 14 of them in all, helping him to win by a wide margin: 49-45 (twice) and 49-46.
Pereira’s twice former opponent, Jiri Prochazka staked his case for a third fight with a dramatic TKO victory in the third round over Khalili Rountree after he had lost the first two rounds.
Manchester-based middleweight prospect Ateba Gautier (now 9-1) was the most impressive fighter in the prelims, with the silent assassin recording his eighth knockout victory (and seventh in the first round) by stopping Tre’ston Vines.

How Pereira regained the belt

Pereira regains title

And his reputation as the most vicious fighter in the UFC.

Pereira wins by TKO in Round 1

The Brazilian came out a different fighter to the last fight. Forcing Ankalaev backwards and landing a strong early jab, then right hand early. Ankalaev was not allowed to get any rhythm and another flurry ended with a right hand which put the Dagestan fighter down. Pereira then drove elbows into the body and head of his prone opponent, leading to the referee jumping in.

Dvalishvili wins by unanimous decision

He took the fight 49-45 (twice) and 49-46 on the third card.

Dvalishvili-Sandhagen: Round 5

Dvalishvili dominated the round once more with his takedowns. Sandhagen wobbled the Georgian coming out of a clinch in the closing stages, forcing the champion backwards. It was too little, too late though.

Dvalishvili-Sandhagen: Round 4

The fight following a similar pattern. Sandhagen got more strikes in but the takedowns from Dvalishvili ensure he wins the round. He now has a record 14 of them.

Dvalishvili-Sandhagen: Round 3

A quieter round, but Dvalishvili taking Sandhagen's back and throwing him to the floor on numerous occasions assures him of the round.

Dvalishvili-Sandhagen: Round 2

Only Sandhagen will now how he survived the onslaught in the first half of the round. After Dvalishvili threw him to the ground, Sandhagen got up and tried to land a knee lift but was caught with a right hand which led to a ferocious flurry of shots. Sandhagen was pounded on the floor but managed to get back to his feet, but was put back down many times. Nine takedowns in the fight so far.

Dvalishvili-Sandhagen: Round 1

Sandhagen giving a decent account of himself. He maybe slightly got the better of the stand up though Dvalishvili got the challenger's back at one point. Sandhagen released the hold and landed a knee lift in the closing stages.

Co-Main Event coming up...

Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili (20-4) looks unstoppable. Can Cory Sandhagen (18-5) shock the world?

Prochazka stops Rountree Jr in Round 3

Knowing he needed a knockout, Prochazka came out with a purpose, walking through Rountree's shots, setting up shots with leg kicks and then landing brutal shots. Rountree was gassed from before the mid-point in the round and withstood a number of brutal strikes and elbows before a huge right hand saw Rountree fall face first to the mat.

Prochazka-Rountree Jr: Round 2

A disappointing display from Prochazka so far. He still doens't look right on his feet and is being beaten to power shot from Rountree who is also landing a lot of leg kicks. The best punch of the round, a counter left hand came from Rountree in the final seconds.

Prochazka-Rountree Jr: Round 1

A bit of a phony war for the first half of the round but it came to life with Rountree landing with big body punch, then Prochazka replying with a high knee. Rountree recovered quickly connecting with two keft-right combinations. Prochazka seems to be having problems with his feet, often almost slipping. Rountree's round.

Light-heavy fight worthy of main event

And this isn't even a co-main event here. Jiri Prochazka (31-5-1) and Khalil Rountree Jr (14-6) could well steal the show.

Zalal wins by submission in Round 1

Zalal took Emmett down to the ground and though the American got to his feet, the Moroccan locked in and twisted the armbar leading to a verbal submission.

Emmett-Zalal next

Josh Emmett (19-5) and Youssef Zalal (17-5-1) meet in a featherweight contest.

Pyfer wins by submission in Round 2

Incredible turn around. Pyfer landed a right hook at the start of the second round which turned the fight on its head. Another right put him down and then after ground and pound, he locked in a choke hold which saw Magomedov tap.

Magomedov-Pyfer: Round 1

A dominant round from Magomedov, landing at will, throwing his opponent to the floor and almost submitting Pyfer when locking in an armbar and headscissors.

More Middleweight action...

Joe Pyfer (14-3) takes on Abus Magomedov (28-6-1) - 16 vs 19 in the middleweight rankings. They will do well to outdo Gautier's performance.

Main Card is next...

Let's hope we can have a highlights reel to compare to the prelims ones.

Gautier wins by TKO in Round 1

He is brutal. A knee-lift put his opponent down then when they were grappling against the fence an elbow in close rocked his opponent and Gautier just threw him to the ground and after a couple more blows it was over.

Middleweights up next...

Devastating puncher Ateba Gautier (8-1, 7 KOs) takes on Tre'ston Vines (10-3).

Santos with Round 2 TKO

Yoo was dismissive of Santos' attacking attempts in the first round and the disrespect cost him as after shimmying out the way of a couple of shots, he was caught with a left hook which effectively ended the fight. Santos then landed three or four shots with Yoo defenseless and the referee stepped in.

Santos-Yoo: Round 1

Yoo very impressive in stand up avoiding Santos' attacks and landing brutal shots and calf kicks himself. Santos took him down and held him against the cage for a minute or so but did little damage.

Unbeaten Yoo takes on Santos

Daniel Santos (19-2) fights Joo-Sang Yoo (9-0) in a catchweight contest.

Wiklacz wins on points!

He took a split decision 29-28 (twice in his favour, once the other way). It feels a strange decision. I suppose he could have been given the first two rounds as they were tight, before he took a beating in the third.

Mix-Wiklacz: Round 3

Mix took control early in the round taking his opponent down and keeping him there until just before the end of the fight, opening up a huge cut on the Pole's forehead with a series of elbows.

Mix-Wiklacz: Round 2

A round fought on pretty even terms both standing up and on the mat. Wiklacz was warned for a questionable low blow.

Mix-Wiklacz: Round 1

Mix twice took Wiklacz to the mat and was in control for most of the round but the Pole reversed the hold on the ground and took control of the grappling for the last 90 seconds or so.

Bantamweight clash coming up...

Mix (20-2) takes on UFC debutant Jakub Wiklacz (16-3-2).

Shahbazyan wins by TKO in Round 1

The fight was very even for most of the round and Muniz landed with a good right hand just before Shahbazyan's left hook shook his opponent and saw him lose his footing. Ground and pound with brutal elbows followed, leading to the referee stopping the contest, even though there was barely a second left in the round.

Middleweights up first...

The highly-touted 'Golden Boy' Edmen Shahbazyan (15-5) takes on Andre Muniz (24-7).
