Julia Taubitz comes from behind to win in Altenberg to claim 24th World Cup race

Germany's Julia Taubitz braved the tricky conditions to clinch gold in the women's singles in Altenberg, marking her 24th World Cup victory. Latvia's Elina Vitola also enjoyed a rapid rise after being 15th in her first run before taking silver. Austria's Lisa Schulte completed the podium after finishing , 0.297 seconds adrift of Taubitz.

A storming second run catapulted Germany's Julia Taubitz from 22nd to first for a Luge World Cup victory in Altenberg.
The 27-year-old was 0.878 seconds behind leader Verena Hofer at the halfway point but put down the fastest run of the day to leap up the standings into the gold medal position and her 24th World Cup win.
Taubitz blamed the difficult conditions of wind and rain for her first run, sitting far back in 22nd with a time of 54.774 seconds before her second run of 53.197.
Her soaring victory mimicked teammate Max Langenhan's gold medal win in the men's singles a day before, jumping from 21st to victory.
Latvia's Elina Vitola had a similar experience on the track, sitting in 15th after her first run before earning silver overall.
Austria's Lisa Schulte rounded off the podium with bronze, 0.297 seconds back with a time of 1:48.268.
