The "Hockey Day in Canada" celebration features all six Canadian teams playing each other in a tripleheader televised throughout the country.
The Canadiens did the celebrating early, scoring four times on 11 shots on Ottawa goalie Ray Emery by the 15:33 mark of the opening period.
A crowd of 21,273 at the Bell Centre, the Canadiens' 20th consecutive sellout of the season, gave them a standing ovation at the end of the first period as Montreal went on to snap a four-game losing streak.
"Those fans had an influence on us and helped us a lot to get going, especially against a team like that," Huet told reporters after the game.
Emery was pulled in favor of Dominik Hasek, who stopped all 13 shots he faced the rest of the way. But it was too late by then for the Senators, who out-shot the Canadiens 41-24.
Saku Koivu opened the scoring for the Habs just 1:33 into the opening period and a power-play goal by Francois Bouillon at 6:15 made it 2-0.
