Lehtonen pulls out

Atlanta Thrashers goalkeeper Kari Lehtonen withdrew from Finland's squad for the 2006 Winter Olympics, saying he needed time to recover from a groin. Finland coach Erkka Westerlund has already replaced Calgary Flames goalkeeper Miikka Kiprusoff with Philadelphia's Antero Niittymaki.

He will now choose between Edmonton's Jussi Markkanen and Boston's Hannu Toivonen to replace Lehtonen.
Westerlund has also replaced injured forward Tuomo Ruutu with Jussi Jokinen of the Dallas Stars.
Finland, who have won Olympic silver and two bronze medals at previous Games going back to 1988, finished runner-up in the 2004 World Cup after losing to Canada.
"We will now use the Olympic break as a part of my rehab programme," Lehtonen said in a statement posted on the Thrashers Web site.
"I'm very disappointed that I'm unable to represent my country, but after speaking with our doctors, we feel it's the best thing to do at this time and my only real option," he said.
In the preliminary round of next month's Turin Games, Finland is grouped with Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and hosts Italy.
