This season begins in Mexico City at a circuit adored by drivers and fans alike. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is known among the motorsport community for hosting the likes of Formula 1, with Formula E opting to race on a shorter 2.63km layout. It’s a challenge for the drivers, but is a great place to start the season with Mexican fans bringing a passionate party atmosphere.

'Guilt-free motorsport!' - Why you will fall in love with Formula E...

Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship kick starts this week, and for UK viewers you can watch all the action unfold exclusively on TNT Sports and discovery+. The all-electric championship attracts iconic automotive manufacturers, boasts the most competitive line-up motorsport has to offer and races in the most incredible locations around the world.
This season begins in Mexico City at a circuit adored by drivers and fans alike. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez is known among the motorsport community for hosting the likes of Formula 1, with Formula E opting to race on a shorter 2.63km layout. It’s a challenge for the drivers, but is a great place to start the season with Mexican fans bringing a passionate party atmosphere!
The circuit itself is a brilliant blend of straights and more complex corners, with the highlight being the Foro Sol grandstand which will be filled with 40,000 spectators this weekend.
Being the start of a new season, everything resets back to zero. Last time out in Mexico, Andretti’s Jake Dennis secured victory and would later go on to win the championship, but there’s no guarantee history will repeat itself.
In Formula E, competition is on another level. During the pre-season test that occurred in Valencia last October, all of the grid were separated by less than a second.
Although there are some teams that are expected to perform better than others, all teams have been working hard during the break and are hoping they’ll be standing on the podium come Saturday.
Andretti, who won here last season with Dennis, are powered by Porsche. The powertrain supplier also have their own team in Formula E – TAG Heuer Porsche – and have a strong track record in Mexico City. They won their first race here in Season 8, with a dominant 1-2 result and Pascal Wehrlein being the one to lift the winners’ trophy. Last season, Wehrlein also finished second here with Andretti’s Porsche-powered car clinching the top spot on the podium. He is definitely one to watch over the Mexico City weekend, almost winning the event in Season 5 too but ran out of energy on the final corner of the final lap!
However, towards the end of last year Jaguar TCS Racing and their customer team Envision Racing took a massive leap forward in performance, something that is expected to translate into Season 10. Jaguar have now changed their driver line-up for the new season, bringing in last season’s Vice Champion Nick Cassidy. He will drive alongside Mitch Evans, with the two of them forming one of the strongest partnerships in Formula E’s history.
This new season also marks the second year of the GEN3 machine; the fastest, lightest and most sustainable Formula E car yet. Last season, the new car meant that lots of drivers had to change up their driving style and the results were close racing with plenty of overtaking!

Evans and Jaguar to grab titles? TNT experts reveal bold predictions ahead of new season

For racing fans in the UK, there are plenty of Brits to cheer and support from afar. Jake Dennis comes into Mexico as the reigning champion, after wrapping up the title in front of his home fans in London. However, he expects things to be tough as the other teams close up in the fight for the championship: “We've still got an incredibly strong powertrain," he said. "I don't think there's too much development that can happen coming into this season. There's always tweaks here and there, but it's more probably fine tuning.”
“I would expect the likes of DS will definitely close the gap to us,” Dennis continued. “It's also still going to be difficult to beat Jaguar TCS Racing and the other Porsche team. Just trying to do what we did last year is going to be extremely difficult with that many podiums and wins. It's never easy when the competition closes up."
Sam Bird has also been a staple of the championship, racing in Formula E since the 2014 Beijing E-Prix - Formula E’s very first race. Bird now joins NEOM McLaren alongside Jake Hughes, for an all-British line-up. Bird has 11 wins and 26 podiums to his name, and has come from a stint at Jaguar. Bird’s speed and experience makes him a safe pair of hands, and alongside Hughes - who greatly impressed in his rookie season - it’s a solid duo.
Yorkshireman Oliver Rowland will be making a comeback this season, after ending Season 9 prematurely with team Mahindra Racing. Returning to his old home team, Nissan, the 31-year-old has achieved six podiums and one victory during his time in Formula E so far.
Last but not least, Dan Ticktum makes up the Brits in Season 10. The young driver is known for being quite hot-headed and not afraid to say what’s on his mind, but is also rapidly fast. He races for the ERT Formula E team, who are currently in the bottom half of the standings, but also continues to put his car where it shouldn’t belong in qualifying and sometimes the race.
Overall, Mexico City promises to be an unforgettable weekend and is the perfect place to launch Formula E on TNT Sports and discovery+.
