Lewis Hamilton's time at Mercedes appears to be coming to an end. Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013 and last summer signed a new contract for 2024 and 2025. However, according to widespread reports he is set to leave Mercedes after the upcoming season and join Ferrari. He is likely to replace Carlos Sainz, whose contract expires after the end of the 2024 season.

Lewis Hamilton will reportedly make a shock move to Ferrari in 2025.
Hamilton has won six of his seven world titles since joining Mercedes in 2013, and only signed a new contract with the German team last summer for 2024 and 2025, but Sky Sports are among those to claim he will depart after the current season to join Ferrari.
The arrival of Hamilton would likely signal a departure for Carlos Sainz, whose contract expires at the end of 2024.
Eddie Irvine was the last driver from the UK to race for the Italian heavyweights in 1999.
Hamilton moved to Mercedes from McLaren in 2013 and enjoyed almost a decade of dominance.
He was world champion in 2014 and 2015, then followed up with four straight titles from 2017 to 2020.
He missed out on an eighth world title - which would have seen him claim the outright record - in a controversial finish to the 2021 season as he was pipped at the end of the final race by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Mercedes have since fallen behind as Red Bull and Verstappen have ruled the sport.
Although Mercedes were second in the constructors’ standings last season, Hamilton must think he has a better chance of winning another world title with Ferrari.
Hamilton shares the record for most world titles with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher, with his mooted switch created the tantalising possibility of him claiming an historic eighth triumph in the iconic red livery.
The 39-year-old has previously admitted that driving for Ferrari would be a “dream”.
“For years, whenever I come to Monza and see the fans, I hear them saying ‘Come to Ferrari!,” he said in 2021.
“It warms my heart but it’s pretty amazing that I’ve never driven for Ferrari after so many years. Because it’s a dream for everyone, a goal to be achieved. It’s never really been possible and I will never quite know exactly why.”
Hamilton’s exit would leave Mercedes looking for a team-mate for George Russell.
