Southgate names Rashford, Lingard in England squad for World Cup qualifiers

England caretaker manager Gareth Southgate has named his 23-man squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
As expected Marcus Rashford makes the cut, with Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy the other strikers chosen.
Rashford's Manchester United team-mate Jesse Lingard is a more surprising inclusion, however, while Theo Walcott also joins Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli in the list of midfielders, along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Michail Antonio.
Veteran defender Glen Johnson, now at Stoke, is also recalled.
England play Malta and Slovenia on 8 and 11 October respectively.
