England manager Gareth Southgate has dropped Wayne Rooney from his squad to face Scotland and France next month, a move that could signal the end of the Manchester United forward's international career.

Rooney, 31, missed out on the March internationals, a 2-0 win over Lithuania in qualifying and 1-0 friendly defeat in Germany, due to injury, but has been culled by Southgate ahead of the Group F leaders' trip to face qualifying rivals Scotland in Glasgow on June 10 at Hampden Park.
Rooney has scored eight goals in 43 appearances for club and country this season, and was brought on to replace Juan Mata in the final minute of the 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
Jermain Defoe, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Rooney's Manchester United team-mate Marcus Rashford are the preferred options in attack for England.
Southgate's side will end their season with a trip to face France in a friendly in Paris on June 13. The national coach has defended the decision to omit Rooney.
"We have a lot of players playing exceptionally well in the area of the pitch that Wayne plays," said Southgate.

“I said last time (in March) that he was a bit short of matches – he’s had some matches now but we’ve got players that have done really, really well for us in Adam Lallana and Dele Alli.
“We’ve got Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane coming back and Jermain Defoe who did really well for us last time while Jamie Vardy’s been in excellent form in the second half of the season.
“I can’t dress it up any other way. Other players are in really good form and deserve to keep their place.”
Rooney is no longer captain of his country after struggling to find any form or regular appearances for United this season. Unless there is an improvement in his fortunes, Rooney's golden 14-year career with the national side will end on 119 caps and a record haul of 53 goals.
"The Scotland game is one of football’s great fixtures," said Southgate.

We’re in a place in the group where a win can really put us in a very strong position, and that’s what we want to achieve. France is a great challenge for us. Our ambition with our friendly matches is to play the best possible teams – we’ve done that by playing Spain and Germany already.
“They’re teams we want to test ourselves against and these are great opportunities to learn and improve.
“A game away in the Stade de France will be a brilliant occasion for the players.”
West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell earns a recall with Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier winning a first call-up.
