Sweden coach Janne Andersson unhappy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic questions
Sweden manager Janne Andersson was incredulous after reporters asked about the possibility of Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning from international retirement in the aftermath of the country’s play-off win over Italy.
The Azzurri failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958 after Sweden held onto their one-goal advantage from the first leg and secured a 0-0 draw in Italy on Monday night.
It was a heroic achievement for the Swedes, but even after such a stunning result, Andersson was hit with questions over whether Ibrahimovic, who retired following Euro 2016 with 62 goals in 116 caps, would be returning to international action.
The 36-year-old has not played since April due to a serious knee injury, but he is working on his rehabilitation at Manchester United.
"This is incredible! This player has just stopped to play with Sweden one year and a half ago and we are still here talking about him," Andersson said.
"Gosh, we need to talk about the great players we have in this team I believe.
"What I wanted to say was that this was the demonstration that our collective acted like this during the whole length of the play-offs. We have many heroes tonight. I am a bit moved but obviously very happy with the result.
"When Ibrahimovic was here with us we played a different style of football. Considering that he has decided to leave international football, he is a great champion, but we had to adapt and found another style."
