Chelsea through to Women’s Champions League knockouts after big win in Albania, PSG, Wolfsburg and Roma also qualify

On Thursday night, WSL side Arsenal qualified for the knockout stages of the Women's Champions League despite a defeat to Lyon, and on Friday Chelsea secured their own passage from Group A. The Blues managed to gain qualification by securing a 4-0 win in Albania when they defeated Vllaznia, with Paris Saint-Germain winning against Real Madrid and Roma thrashing St Polten.

Chelsea reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League as they defeated Vllaznia 4-0 in Albania, and will be joined by PSG, Wolfsburg and Roma.
The Londoners travelled to Eastern Europe knowing that a win could be enough to send them through to the knockout stages of the continent’s premier tournament, but that there was another game to play if they needed it.
The victory ensures that Chelsea are still unbeaten in this year’s competition, and will top Group A if they avoid defeat against PSG in their final game.
Chelsea went ahead after 12 minutes when Welsh international midfielder Sophie Ingle opened the scored.
Fran Kirby doubled the lead on 20 minutes, before two late goals secured a four-goal margin. Katerina Svitkova made it three on 87 minutes and then Maren Mjelde converted an injury-time penalty.
Chelsea have done well to secure qualification as two of the other sides in their group, Real Madrid and PSG, are some of the strongest teams in this year’s Champions League.
PSG secured a 2-1 win against Real in France with goals from Elisa de Almeida and Kadidiatou Diani - a penalty - enough for three points.
Although second in the group, PSG are five points clear of third-placed Real and through to the next round.
Roma hosted St Polten in their Group B match, and scored four goals in six second-half minutes to run out 5-0 winners.
Roma are now second in the group on 10 points, with St Polten in third on four.
Wolfsburg stayed top of Group B despite a draw at home to Slavia Prague, with Roma and the German side going through to the last eight.
