Cole Palmer starred from the start in Manchester City's penalty shoot-out win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, but City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that there is still uncertainty over the England youngster's future at the club. Guardiola says Palmer wants to be "more active" this season, after making just seven starts in all competitions last term.

Pep 'really pleased' with 'toss of a coin' win, says 'no alcohol' due to Premier League schedule

Pep Guardiola has revealed the ongoing uncertainty around's Cole Palmer's future at Manchester City, despite the England youngster starring in his side's UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla.
City edged out the UEFA Europa League champions on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Greece, with Palmer heading in an equaliser in the second half.
And though he started the showpiece final, Guardiola admitted Palmer wants more pitch time this season.
“The opinion I had is he wanted to leave, but now I don’t know what’s going to happen,” the City boss said.
“I don’t think a loan is going to happen. He’s going to stay or leave, but I think a loan is not going to happen.
"I understand he wants to be more active than the previous season.
"But Riyad [Mahrez] has gone, so we have one more place there. I cannot say anything because, of course, all the decisions need to be made by the club. The club has to decide what the best is. All together, we will do it.
“He has a character," Guardiola added on the England youngster. "It’s not easy to play against defenders like [Marcos] Acuna, for example, who is a top defender.
“It’s not easy, it’s a final. He’s a young player playing in these stages. It’s not easy for these guys. He played really, really good and made a fantastic goal, too.”
Guardiola says the next big target for his players in terms of silverware is the FIFA Club World Cup, due to be held in December.
"We are really pleased to already have one title in this season," he said.
"Really pleased for the club that this title, they did not have it and now we have it.
"We miss just one to finish all the circle [the FIFA Club World Cup] , and which is happening in December when we go to Saudi Arabia to play there.
"Yeah, I would say really, really pleased. A tight game, like it happened in the [Champions League] final against Inter [Milan], a tight game that we lost in the last minute against Arsenal in the Community Shield, and the deflection [for Leandro Trossard's late equaliser].
"So football in these stages, in that moment, in that period, is a coin [flip].

"Sometimes, if [Youssef] En-Nesyri scores the second goal maybe it will be over. We saved it. And, after that, the chances that we had, we could have scored before the penalty kicks."
