Schalke face their destiny

Schalke go into their UEFA Cup semi-final first leg against Sevilla in less than harmonious mood. A dire run of form in the Bundesliga - including back-to-back 1-1 draws against lowly Duisburg and Cologne - has probably cost them a chance of qualifying

MISSING LINCOLN
Two reliable performers seem especially out of sorts. Playmaker Lincoln snubbed his coach Mirko Slomka's handshake when he was substituted against FC Köln. Striker Kevin Kuranyi was booed off by his own fans.
Slomka sees the Sevilla game as a time to act:
"Kuranyi and Lincoln are not in good form at the moment. We have to try something new."
A Champions League place also looks off the cards for the visitors, despite a valuable point against Deportivo at the weekend.
For Schalke, Marco van Hoogdalem (hip), Tomasz Waldoch (ankle) and Christian Pander (lacking match fitness) remain doubts.
Sevilla coach Juande Ramos also has worries in the shape of Antonio Puerta (leg), Jordi López (thigh), Ivica Dragutinović (knee) and Frédéric Kanouté (hamstring).
