Chelsea have yet to drop a point this season going into two encounters in five days against Liverpool at Anfield - first in the Champions League and then the Premiership.
"That win last season was important for us. They know we can beat them," Benitez told reporters on Tuesday.
"Maybe they have a lot of confidence from winning a lot of games. But they know we are a good team and we have the advantage of playing at Anfield in this game.
"We know they have weak points and we have to try and find them."
Liverpool were the last team to beat Chelsea in any competition but captain Sami Hyypia does not believe last season's Champions League success will be a factor in the game.
"That game has no relevance. This is another game in another season," he told reporters.
"Maybe they will have revenge on their minds, but I don't know, I play for Liverpool not Chelsea."
'A MUST WIN GAME'
Both teams opened with wins in Group G, Liverpool winning 2-1 in Seville against Real Betis while Chelsea overcame Anderlecht 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Hyypia said it was more important for Liverpool to pick up three points in their league encounter on Sunday than securing a victory in the Champions League.
"This isn't a must win game because there are other matches to be played in the group," he said.
"Sunday is more important. We haven't started the way we would have liked in the league and we should have a few more points."
