Diao told French newspaper l'Equipe that he regrets the days when Bruno Metsu was at the helm:
"We no longer have the look of guys who are hungry, who want to massacre their opponents when they come on a pitch. No, it's more like as if we were at Club Med," he told the newspaper.
But even though Senegal were nearly through, he warned the team would have to be on its guard against Mali.
"We have to watch out. On top of it, it's a derby. Even if it's not as intense as the rivalry between Senegal and The Gambia, the rivalry is enormous.
And since [these days], we have a tendency to run our mouths a little too much, it doesn't help. It's normal that everyone wants to beat us."
