Manchester United enter race for 'Mexican Pedri', Barcelona line up Robert Lewandowski replacement - Euro Transfer News

In Monday's Euro Transfer News, Manchester United have joined the race with some of Europe's elite clubs to sign a "generational hope". Elsewhere, Barcelona are looking at a striker reshuffle at the end of the season, which would see Robert Lewandowski move on from the Spanish champions after four years, with a striker identified to replace him, and Joe Gomez has become a priority for AC Milan.

Man Utd eyeing 'generational hope' Mora

Manchester United have joined the race with Real Madrid to sign teenage sensation Gilberto Mora - labelled "the Mexican Pedri" - as per Calciomercato.
The 16-year-old Mexican midfielder currently plays for Liga MX club Tijuana, and he has made three appearances for the Mexico national team, where he has broken records set by Lamine Yamal.
The Italian outlet explains: "Gilberto Mora, however, is a talent who is literally burning every possible stage and record. In Mexico, they talk about a "generational hope" and the fact that he already made his senior national team debut at just 16 has only increased his hype in his homeland.
Speaking of records, by winning, as a starter, the Gold Cup played this summer [which coincided with the FIFA Club World Cup], he surpassed Lamine Yamal in terms of age as the youngest player ever to win a senior national team trophy.
"Gilberto Mora is a pure playmaker, a No. 10 who can play both as a winger and as a second striker, as well as a central midfielder. Comparisons are obviously rife, from [Lionel] Messi to [Andreas] Iniesta, but perhaps the most fitting one is the one 'Touchline' gave him in England, during a match against Tijuana, during which he was nicknamed 'the Mexican Pedri'.
"Gilberto Mora is still very young and won't be able to move to Europe until he turns 18, but several top clubs like Real Madrid and Man Utd have their eye on him. Scouts from Inter and Juventus were also present in Chile, and they've noted his name in the notebooks of potential transfer market players."

Lewandowski replacement identified

In an additional boost to Marcus Rashford's potential permanent switch to Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski is set to leave the club, according to reports.
The legendary striker, 37, will not extend his contract, which will conclude at the end of the season, primarily due to "the striker's age, a decline in form and an inability to press at the same pace as his team-mates".
Lewandowski has scored 105 goals in 156 appearances for Barca.
Barca have identified Levante's Etta Eyong as a potential replacement to fill the striker's boots, according to Diario Sport.

"The decision has been made: the 37-year-old Polish striker has already completed his time at Barcelona. He will not continue next year, and steps are already being taken to find a replacement, a priority objective in the planning for next season," the article explains.
"His replacement, rather than Julian Alvarez or another established player, is more likely to be a player like Levante's Etta Eyong, to compete with Ferran Torres.
"It remains to be seen whether Lewandowski decides to extend his sporting career by one or two more years or ultimately opts to retire and settle permanently in Catalonia, as his family, especially his wife Ana, seems to wish. No one dares to predict where Lewandowski will play, though he remains very cautious when it comes to his situation."

Gomez top of the list for AC Milan

According to Corriere dello Sport, Joe Gomez has been identified as a "priority" target for Italian giants AC Milan.
Gomez has appeared just twice for Arne Slot's side in the Premier League this season, with his only other appearance coming in the Carabao Cup.
A long-term injury to new Liverpool centre-back Giovanni Leoni could complicate things, however.
The report reads: "In Via Aldo Rossi, they're thinking about how to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window. The idea is the same as it was in the final days of summer: give Massimiliano Allegri an experienced central defender who can improve the team's performance and help his young colleagues develop.
"The first name currently on the list coincides with the one from late August: Joe Gomez. At Liverpool, the 1997-born defender is finding very little playing time: two Premier League appearances for a total of 29 minutes played and only one start in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Southampton.

"The Englishman's desire to find playing time could make the difference, but much will depend on the strategies of Arne Slot, who has been without Giovanni Leoni for many months. Igli Tare and Giorgio Furlani will try to discuss the matter in the coming months, trying to find a solution; otherwise, they will move on to other profiles and other objectives."

Chelsea target Yildiz enters talks over new Juve deal

Previous reports have stated that Chelsea were set to set up their pursuit of promising Juventus youngster Kenan Yildiz.
However, the player would prefer to stay at the Serie A club, but ongoing contract negotiations over a renewal had died down.
Calciomercato has since reported that Yildiz's contract situation is a "priority".
The report explains: "The fact is that Yildiz currently earns around €1.5m [per year] and is among the lowest-paid players in the squad. This situation is obviously explained by Kenan's youth, having become a regular for Juventus just over a year ago. Juventus is ready to recognise Yildiz's new status, including financially, with his salary more than doubled, and this is the focus of ongoing discussions between the parties.

"At the heart of everything is a clear desire to move forward together. Yildiz's contract renewal is a top priority for Juventus, and the player has expressed his intention to become even more committed to the Bianconeri. In addition to the salary adjustment, he also intends to extend his contract until 2030. So why, despite the parties' mutual wishes and ongoing discussions, has Yildiz still not renewed? It's a matter of finding a definitive agreement on everything.
"This is a very significant renewal that will significantly impact the player's salary, so it's natural that it will take time to reach a final agreement. The fact that major European clubs are eyeing the Turk and would be interested in acquiring him isn't surprising, and it would be strange if they weren't. There's no sign of any change of heart, neither from Yildiz nor Juventus. The path is clear, and the growing interest from several major clubs isn't likely to impact the situation."
