Tottenham make late Akanji move
Tottenham are looking to sign Manchester City central defender Manuel Akanji before the end of the transfer window.
A fee of £15 million could be enough to sign the 30-year-old Swiss international central defender.
The Sun reports: "Tottenham are interested in signing Manuel Akanji before Monday’s deadline.
"Spurs boss Thomas Frank has wanted an extra centre-back all summer long, with Radu Dragusin still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
"Manchester City look open to letting £15 million-rated Akanji go this summer.
"The Swiss international, 30, has two years left on his City contract but has not played a minute so far this season for Pep Guardiola’s side."
Premier League duo linked with Mourinho
Jose Mourinho’s sacking by Turkish giants Fenerbahce has seen him linked with two Premier League clubs.
Both Newcastle and West Ham could be interested in the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss, according to The Mirror.
The paper explains: "Jose Mourinho has put the Premier League on red alert after being sacked by Fenerbahce. The Turkish club axed the Special One after Fenerbahce crashed out of the Champions League after losing to Benfica in a play-off.
"Mourinho, 62, is believed to be ready for another challenge - and it could be back in England for the ex-Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea boss. Intriguingly, Mourinho said in October last year that he may be ready for a new challenge in England after years at the top.
"Newcastle have long been linked with Mourinho as a glamour appointment but they are in the Champions League.
"It might appeal to West Ham who have struggled under Graham Potter or it could be a typical cryptic coded Mourinho message said with sarcasm to remind people he always manages at the top or he was taking a pot shot at a rival."
Brentford fail with Beier offer
Borussia Dortmund have rejected a £45m offer from Brentford for their forward Maximilian Beier.
Beier may be seen by Brentford as a potential replacement for Yoane Wissa, who is still wanted by Newcastle.
The Athletic writes: "Brentford have had an offer in the region of £45 million for Maximilian Beier turned down by Borussia Dortmund.
"The bid would have exceeded the club-record £37m Brentford paid Bournemouth for Dango Ouattara earlier this month. The London club are not expected to return with another offer for the 22-year-old striker.
"Brentford’s move for Beier comes with Yoane Wissa seeking a move to Newcastle United, who have had two bids rejected for the forward.
Wissa, 29, will again not feature for Brentford this weekend after missing their first two games amid the uncertainty over his future."
Newcastle weigh up Strand Larsen deal
Wolverhampton Wanderers are unlikely to call upon Jorgen Strand Larsen for their game against Everton.
They are bracing themselves for a third offer from Newcastle for the Norwegian striker.
The Daily Mail states: "Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is set to miss their game with Everton this weekend amid his hopes of sealing a move to Newcastle.
"The Magpies have seen two offers rejected by the Molineux club this week, the latest of which was for £55 million on Tuesday evening.
"Newcastle have since made progress on the £65m arrival of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, but have not given up hope of landing Strand-Larsen.
"With Alexander Isak’s British record move to Liverpool now increasingly likely, Newcastle want two strikers in the door before Monday’s deadline.
"And, while Wolves insist Strand-Larsen is not for sale and chairman Jeff Shi is adamant any offers will be immediately rebuffed, the Norwegian is thought to have let his club know of his desire to move to the North East.
"Daily Mail Sport understands the 25-year-old is now very unlikely to feature in Saturday’s home fixture against Everton as Newcastle consider a third offer."
