Ruben Amorim wants Manchester United to sell Marcus Rashford, with the new head coach viewing the forward’s departure as necessary for a “shift in culture throughout the club, for football and non-football staff”, the Guardian reports.
Rashford was left out of the squad for Sunday’s derby win over Manchester City, along with Alejandro Garnacho, who unlike the striker may yet have a future at the club.
The Guardian adds: “Sir Jim Ratcliffe is intent there can be no passengers and is ready to cut his losses on Rashford if there are suitors in January. A willingness to take short-term pain in pursuit of long-term gain was also behind Dan Ashworth’s exit as sporting director after five months when United had paid £5m to bring him from Newcastle.
“United would countenance a cut-price offer for Rashford. A move in January would be ideal, though his salary of £365,000 a week means only a few clubs could afford him.”
Man Utd investigate ‘leak’
Staying with United, with The Sun reporting the club are launching an internal investigation into which player may have leaked teams news ahead of Sunday’s match against rivals City. Amad Diallo and Garnacho have been quizzed about the leaks, the paper reports, with United’s starting XI said to have been leaked the night before.
The Sun writes: “Garnacho’s brother Roberto had been accused on social media of being one source. Team news has leaked in the past when Alejandro has been left out. Roberto denied last week that he is the mole.
“Amorim said after the victory at The Etihad that he was unhappy that the United team news had been leaked ahead of the game.”
Salah contract close
Mohamed Salah is close to agreeing a contract extension at Liverpool, Marca reports. The Egyptian is out of contract in the summer, and would be free to speak with foreign clubs in January, but there is now a possibility of a new deal being signed before the end of this month.
Salah is among three star Liverpool players who have expiring contracts this season along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
On Salah, Marca writes: “The striker said that he felt that the club did not want to renew the contract that binds both parties until June 30 and that he saw his departure as imminent. In recent weeks the situation has changed completely and the directors of the English club have approached and seduced the Egyptian to continue.
“The situation has completely changed and the striker is now close to remaining a Liverpool player for another season. In recent weeks, the positions have come closer to such an extent that the agreement could be made official before the end of the year. From absolute pessimism we have moved on to total optimism.
“At Anfield, they are continuing their fight on three key players whose contracts are ending in June, in addition to the Egyptian, Alexander Arnold and Van Dijk. The objective they have set themselves is for at least two of the three to continue and for this they are offering an amount of money that was far from their initial calculations.”
