United draw up shortlist

Manchester United are linked with several players ahead of next year’s summer transfer window. There are reportedly several left-backs under consideration, but the Express states that Benjamin Sesko could also be a target.
The paper writes: “United remain keen to sign a young left-back amid Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia's continued injury absence.
“It's claimed that Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez has admirers at Old Trafford but his £40 million valuation blocked a summer approach.
“Alphonso Davies is also said to be under consideration ahead of his Bayern Munich contract expiry next summer.
“Southampton's Tyler Dibling - who made his Premier League debut against United earlier this month - is said to be one to watch.
“RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is still the subject of interest from M16, and he is expected to depart for a new challenge next summer.”

Dyche’s future uncertain

The proposed £500 million takeover of Everton could see Sean Dyche left in limbo over his contract.
His current deal expires next summer, and Dan Friedkin - the prospective new owner - will need to make a decision.
The Mirror writes: “Sean Dyche’s fate will be decided by Dan Friedkin in one of his first acts when his £500 million takeover of Everton is approved.
“Dyche’s Everton contract expires in July and the club have shelved talks over a new deal because they know that is [a] decision for Friedkin.
“Dyche, who took over at Goodison Park in January 2023, will continue to work in limbo until the Premier League, Financial Conduct Authority and the FA ratify Friedkin’s takeover.
“They are expected to give Friedkin’s purchase of Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% controlling stake the green light by December and Dyche will discover his fate then.
“Friedkin, who owns Serie A side Roma, has big ambitions for Everton and it remains to be seen if he feels Dyche is the manager to realise them.”

United missed out on Ngumoha

Manchester United battled Liverpool to sign Rio Ngumoha this summer, but The Athletic reports on how he chose his next move after Chelsea.
The 16-year-old attracted interest from plenty of clubs, but United felt they had little chance of beating Liverpool to the player after discussing their plans for the future.
The website writes: “Recruiting one of the most highly-rated teenagers in the country was no easy process, not least because Chelsea did not want to lose him, and there was a late push from the club to keep him.
“Ngumoha has always attracted interest from the elite. He was touring top-level clubs across the country when he was just eight years old and spent time at Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester City, among others, before choosing Chelsea.
“Those within his inner circle have long predicted a bright future. His brother, James, is a big influence and was by his side during those early decision-making years and when he was considering a move away from London in more recent times.
“In June, Ngumoha spent time at Manchester United listening to plans they had for him if he decided on a move. United pushed for his signature but felt they were already behind Liverpool in the race and eventually conceded defeat.”

United decided against David and Toney

The Independent discussed Manchester United’s scoring woes, and revealed two players on their summer shortlist.
While the club signed Joshua Zirkzee, they elected not to move for more proven goalscorers, Jonathan David of Lille and new Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney.
The paper explains: “The Dutchman in attack, Joshua Zirkzee, scored on an auspicious debut against Fulham but has been wasteful since then.
“United chose Zirkzee ahead of Jonathan David, who has overperformed his xG in each of the last six seasons for Lille, and Ivan Toney, who overperformed his in three of his last four campaigns for Brentford, from their striking shortlist.”
