Inter chase Rashford
Inter have emerged as contenders to sign Marcus Rashford as they look to bounce back from their heavy Champions League final defeat to PSG, The Sun reports.
Rashford spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, who are unlikely to make the move permanent due to his salary demands, while the forward does not have a Manchester United future while Ruben Amorim remains in charge.
The Sun writes: “The Italian giants are looking to rebuild their side in the wake of the Champions League final demolition at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
“Inter were thrashed 5-0 in a defeat which came on the back of them throwing away the Serie A title late in the season, opening the door for Napoli.
“Club chiefs believe that Rashford could be a key acquisition and would excite supporters.
“And although Man Utd would prefer a permanent deal, Inter are also exploring the option of a long-term loan move.”
Chelsea prefer Gittens over Sancho
Chelsea would prefer to bring Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens to Stamford Bridge over making Jadon Sancho’s move permanent from Manchester United, The Guardian reports.
Sancho’s future remains unclear but Chelsea appear to prefer a right-footed winger for the left flank, with the 25-year-old ticking that particular box.
The Guardian adds: “Gittens is one of several players on Chelsea’s shortlist and it is understood that talks over a deal for the England Under-21 international have been held with Dortmund.
“Enzo Maresca’s system relies on quality wide players. Sancho had an opportunity to press his case after joining Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy for £25m last summer. The 25‑year‑old’s talent has flickered at times and he scored when Maresca’s side beat Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final last week.
“Yet Sancho, who struggled after joining Manchester United from Dortmund in 2021, was unable to hold down a regular starting place last season and it is understood that Chelsea have misgivings over buying him.
“They can pay a £5m exit fee to terminate the agreement with United and sources have said that the London club are edging towards that option. Chelsea think Sancho is talented and have been impressed with his attitude but fear he is not consistent enough. There remains a possibility that Chelsea could decide to sign Sancho if he agrees to a lower salary in line with the club’s wage policy.”
Liverpool to ‘lowball’ Bournemouth on Kerkez
Liverpool are preparing a bid for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez but the Premier League champions may offer well below the Cherries’ asking price, The i Paper reports.
Kerkez is believed to prefer a move to Liverpool over Manchester City, and it may take some negotiation to find an agreement for the £45m-rated defender.
The i Paper writes: “Whether a deal can be struck quickly is another matter, with the Cherries determined to get what they believe is market value for the 21-year-old.
“Despite feverish speculation over the last couple of weeks, no bid has yet been tabled and it is anticipated that Liverpool’s first offer will come in lower than Bournemouth’s asking price.
“A deal with achievable add-ons is a possible compromise but, having sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid for £50m, there is no pressure on Bournemouth to sell on the cheap.”
Man City confident of Ait-Nouri signing
Manchester City are close to signing Wolves full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, The Guardian reports, with the Algerian defender viewed as one of their primary targets for the summer rebuild.
City’s chair Khaldoon al-Mubarak regretted the clubs’ previous summer transfer window and wants to complete most of their business before their Club World Cup opener on 18 June, with Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki also a target.
The Guardian adds: “Guardiola has been keen to strengthen at left-back after playing the centre-back Josko Gvardiol and the midfielder Nico O’Reilly – neither of whom are orthodox full-backs – there for most of last season. City are among the clubs to have tracked the Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, who is expected to join Liverpool. The Premier League champions want to add a left-back to compete with Andy Robertson.
“Ait-Nouri has impressed in four seasons at Wolves, for whom he initially signed on loan from the Ligue 1 club Angers in October 2020. Wolves are thought to value the 23-year-old at about £50m. He has 12 months remaining on his contract, though the club hold an option to extend his deal for a further year.”
