Martin Zubimendi: Arsenal complete £51 million transfer of Spanish midfielder from Real Sociedad - 'Huge moment'

Arsenal's long chase for Martin Zubimendi's signature is now over after the Spain international put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Emirates Stadium. The 26-year-old was widely linked with a move to north London and will now be playing in the Premier League for Mikel Arteta's side next season. Zubimendi leaves Spain after making 48 appearances across all competitions for La Real last season.

Arsenal have completed the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
The Gunners have had a long-held interest in the 26-year-old midfielder, who had also been linked with moves to Liverpool and Real Madrid.
He reportedly had a £51 million release clause, which Arsenal triggered.
Zubimendi has been with Sociedad since 2019 and was part of the team which played in the UEFA Europa League against Manchester United last season.
The Spain international helped his country to Euro 2024 glory last year. He came on for Manchester City's Rodri at half-time in the final against England in Berlin.
"This is a huge moment in my career," Zubimendi said. "It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are.
"I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come."
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add more quality to his squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The Gunners have finished second in the Premier League in the last three seasons, twice thwarted by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City and last season by Arne Slot's Liverpool.
"Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team," Arteta said.

"He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us.
"The standard he has consistently performed at over the last few seasons for both club and country is exactly why we are so excited to have him with us. We all welcome Martin and his family to the club."
