Man Utd lining up move for 'next Iniesta'
Manchester United are making moves to bring Royal Antwerp starlet Arthur Vermeeren, who has been labelled the “next Andres Iniesta”, to Old Trafford.
That’s according to the Sun, which claims United face competition from Barcelona for the teenager’s signature.
The article states: “Manchester United are lining up a swoop for the ‘next Andres Iniesta’ but are facing competition from Barcelona.
“Royal Antwerp's 18-year-old sensation Arthur Vermeeren has drawn comparisons with Spanish legend Iniesta.
“And Erik ten Hag is said to be ‘in love’ with the Belgian playmaker.
“After making his first-team debut last year, the midfielder has been playing regularly for Royal Antwerp this season.
“And the report claims Old Trafford chiefs have contacted the teen's representative to discuss a potential transfer.”
Toney is Arsenal's priority in January
Brentford striker Ivan Toney is Arsenal’s priority signing in January, claims the Mirror.
Last season’s Premier League runners-up face competition from Chelsea and Tottenham, states the paper, but Mikel Arteta hopes that Arsenal’s “ambition and vision will be key in trying to do a deal for Toney, who looks set to leave Brentford in January”.
“Brentford will demand at least £60m even though 27-year-old Toney will only have 18 months left on his deal and a bidding war could push the price up further,” the article continues.
“That would make life difficult for Arsenal because they will be conscious they cannot break strict Financial Fair Play spending rules and even signed David Raya on loan in the summer - but will look to make that permanent next year. It could mean that Arsenal have to sell and balance the squad before the end of the financial year.”
Barcelona monitoring Sancho and Martial
Barcelona are keen on a move for Manchester United duo Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial this January, it has been reported.
Sancho has been strongly linked with a move following a public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag, while Martial is struggling for consistent time on the pitch.
They could be offered an escape with the Catalan giants said to be weighing up a move.
The Manchester Evening News carries the story, first reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The report states: “According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca boss Xavi is interested in both men and is expecting his club to be offered players in the winter who are out of favour with their current managers.
“Due to their current financial situation, Barca are looking to think outside the box and reportedly this includes targeting the Reds' duo.”
