Jadon Sancho set for Manchester United stay, Conor Gallagher linked with Chelsea departure - Paper Round

Manchester United may sign Melvin Bard from Nice as the left-sided defender enters the last two years of his current deal, while Jadon Sancho may now stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer. Elsewhere, Chelsea may be forced to sell Conor Gallagher so they do not lose him on a free transfer, and Neymar is ready to rejoin Santos when his contract at Al-Hilal expires.

Sancho could stay at Man Utd

Manchester United could retain Jadon Sancho if Jason Wilcox joins as technical director from Southampton.
The pair were at Manchester City together and that could fix the relationship between the club and player.
“Jadon Sancho could be offered a lifeline to resurrect his Manchester United career if Jason Wilcox joins the club as planned,” the Mirror explains.
“United have launched an ambitious push to bring Wilcox in as their new technical director. They are currently locked in talks with an angry Southampton over the Englishman, with Wilcox currently director of football at the Saints.
“The Red Devils are hoping to bring Wilcox in as part of a new backroom structure led by Dan Ashworth. Wilcox made his name at Manchester City, where he first worked as a coach before becoming their academy director.
“His work in the academy brought him into close contact with Sancho, who came through the ranks at the reigning Premier League champions before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Sancho is now at United, though is currently on loan at Dortmund after falling out with Erik ten Hag.”

Man Utd keen on Nice defender Bard

Manchester United could also make a move for Nice defender Melvin Bard this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
The player has two years left on his contract, and the club might sign the Frenchman to reinforce their defence.
The paper writes: “Manchester United are in contact with Nice defender Melvin Bard as the club focuses on signing a new left-back this summer.
“The 23-year-old is being discussed as one of the club’s targets to bolster their squad and is already playing under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS ownership in France.
“Bard, an attacking left-sided option, has excelled in Ligue 1 this season and is pushing for his maiden France call-up ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.
“A move to Old Trafford could benefit both INEOS-affiliated clubs. Bard has just two years left on his current contract and talks are expected over a new, improved deal in the coming months.”

Gallagher linked with Chelsea exit

The Sun reports that Conor Gallagher is expected by many to leave Chelsea this summer, which may be because their hand is forced.
Like Mason Mount before him, as his contract comes to an end, Chelsea could be forced to leave for a relatively reduced sum.
The paper states: “Conor Gallagher is tipped to leave Chelsea this summer.
“Just as he was in January, last summer and the January before that.
“At some point something has to give and with barely a year left on his contract things are coming to a head.
“Player transfer value is at its highest when they have two years left on their contracts. Mount slipped past that point and Chelsea have let it slide with Gallagher too.”

Neymar looks for Santos return

The Mail reports that Neymar will return to former club Santos when his contract is up at Al Hilal.
The Brazilian striker is out injured at the moment, and has another season on his current deal.
The paper notes: “The 32-year-old currently plays for Al Hilal after moving to the Middle East from PSG for £78m last summer, but he is already eyeing his next move after a nightmare year in Saudi Arabia.
“Neymar made just five appearances for the club before suffering an ACL injury while on international duty with Brazil in October that ruled him out for the season.
“While he recovers from his long-term injury, Neymar has returned to Brazil and he was given the honour of carrying the Campeonato Paulista trophy onto the pitch ahead of the first leg of Santos' final against Palmeiras on Sunday.
“Neymar entered the Santos dressing room and vowed to return to the club in 2025.”
