David Raya has agreed personal terms with Arsenal, ahead of talks with Brentford over a potential transfer, according to reports.
The Spaniard, who made his debut for his national team last year and currently has two caps, had been linked with a move away from his current side after impressing in the Premier League.
Various reports have claimed that Brentford had valued the 27-year-old at around £40 million, with Arsenal reluctant to meet that asking price.
Mikel Arteta already has Aaron Ramsdale as his first-choice goalkeeper, but Matt Turner is linked with a move to Nottingham Forest as a potential deal for Manchester United’s Dean Henderson’s permanent transfer to the City Ground founders.
That would leave Arsenal in need of another player to give Ramsdale competition, and with Arsenal now back in the Champions League they have been busy in the transfer market.
They have already bought Kai Havertz from Chelsea, as well as Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice, who joined from Ajax and West Ham respectively.
The club are expected to make sales, too, with Folarin Balogun linked to Serie A clubs amongst others, and Nicolas Pepe and Thomas Partey are also subject of transfer speculation.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday evening that Raya has now agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of a proposed transfer to the Emirates.
The player has told Brentford that he wishes to join Arsenal, who finished second last season after a title challenge ultimately collapsed under pressure from eventual winners Manchester City.
The journalist reports that talks are expected to intensify as Arsenal look to make their fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
