Manchester United rejected four midfielders offered to them to replace Christian Eriksen, but one potential option might be Eintracht Frankfurt's Daichi Kamada, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Elsewhere, Hakim Ziyech's move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed, Pep Guardiola and Joao Cancelo fell out, and Aston Villa have brought Bertrand Traore back.

Ten Hag says Eriksen will be 'hard to replace' after ankle injury

UNITED CONSIDER FIVE ALTERNATIVES TO SABITZER

The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United had plenty of options put their way when they looked at bringing in a replacement for Christian Eriksen, following an injury to the Danish midfielder.
However, while one player might have been a credible option, four other players across Europe were not seen as serious alternatives.
“Following news of Eriksen's injury, it is believed several agents called the Red Devils to try to persuade them to sign their clients,” the paper states. “The four players in question were Isco, Saul Niguez, Houssem Aouar and Yannick Carrasco.
“Yet it is believed United were not interested in signing any of these players. If their bid to loan Sabitzer was to fail, United may have made a swoop for Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada, who is out of contract in the summer.
“But Sabitzer has always been at the top of their list. The 28-year-old has featured in all but three of Bayern's Bundesliga games this season, but most of those outings have come from the bench. He would play more regularly at United.

ZIYECH STRANDED IN PARIS

Chelsea’s 29-year-old playmaker Hakim Ziyech already believed he would be playing for Paris Saint-Germain for the rest of the season, but as the Sun relays, Chelsea’s failure to send off the required paperwork in time meant that the deal fell through. That left the Moroccan international in limbo after already arriving in Paris and completing a medical.
“It is believed there is little chance an appeal will produce any results with Ziyech reportedly left stranded in PSG offices,” the report reveals.
“PSG are said to be left very frustrated by the situation and will appeal to Ligue 1.
“The Moroccan international is even said to have offered up financial help to push through the deal and is now stuck in Paris.
“PSG made an approach to sign Ziyech on loan with an option to buy yesterday after the winger fell down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.”

CANCELO'S EXIT EXPLAINED

Joao Cancelo’s departure from Manchester City came as a shock to many with the 28-year-old full-back one of the club’s most regular starters before the World Cup in Qatar last year.
However upon his return, he found himself on the sidelines, and Spanish newspaper Marca reports that the tension boiled over between the player and manager Pep Guardiola, leading to a hasty exit.
“The full-back was clearly angry with Pep when he found out that he would not be in the starting XI for the FA Cup match against Arsenal,” explains the paper.
“Given this situation, Cancelo does not want to stay at Manchester City either, as he considers his relationship with Guardiola to be irreconcilable.”

VILLA RECALL TRAORE

Aston Villa have recalled Bertrand Traore from his loan at Istanbul Basaksehir, with the 27-year-old forward suffering from an injury recently in Turkey, and new manager Unai Emery looking to increase cover and competition in his squad with half the season remaining.
The Daily Mail reports on the reasoning behind the termination of the deal for Traore, writing: “Aston Villa are recalling winger Bertrand Traore from his loan at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir.
“Traore was loaned out after featuring in just nine Premier League matches for Villa last season under Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard.
“He scored three goals in 18 appearances while in Turkey, but has not played since late December after picking up a knee injury.
“Traore now looks set to battle with the likes of Leon Bailey and Emiliano Buendia for a starting spot in Unai Emery's team.”
