SALFORD HAMMER LEYTON ORIENT TO COAST THROUGH TO FA CUP THIRD ROUND
League Two Salford City thrashed Leyton Orient at the Peninsula Stadium to set up a potential high-profile third-round tie.
Salford started the match on the front foot from the first whistle, piling numbers forward in attack and firing a succession of crosses and long throws into the box to unsettle the Orient back line.
The hosts took a well-deserved lead after 20 minutes, with Leyton Orient goalkeeper Killian Cahill turning the ball into his own net after some brilliant work down the left-hand side from Kadeem Harris. Harris burst into the box, throwing in a step-over to take the ball to the side of Michael Craig before rifling an effort across the face of goal which ricocheted off the goalkeeper’s legs and into the back of the net.

Salford went close to doubling their lead five minutes from the break, when Jorge Grant’s free-kick was palmed back into play by Cahill and Daniel Udoh was first to react, hitting an effort which was deflected onto the post and behind for a corner.
Karl Robinson’s side did double their lead just 15 minutes into the second half, after Kallum Cesay smartly turned to take the ball away from a Leyton Orient defender on the right-hand side of the penalty area before smashing an effort past Cahill into the back of the net.

Leyton Orient had their best spell with 15 minutes to go, injecting a sense of urgency into their play for the first time in the match. The visitors were getting the ball forward quickly, with Aaron Connolly in particular looking dangerous when he drove forward with the ball, but ultimately the O’s couldn’t come up with anything to breach the stubborn Salford defence.
Salford then put the icing on the cake with two goals in the space of five minutes, with substitute Fabio Borini reacting fastest after Grant’s effort was saved to net the rebound at the second time of asking, before Kelly N’Mai netted the fourth and final goal of the game, latching on to a long punt up the field before holding his nerve to slot past Cahill.
A sensational result for Robinson's side, who coast into the third round of the famous cup competition.
