Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Kevin de Bruyne after the Manchester City midfielder returned from a five-month injury layoff on Sunday.
De Bruyne was a 57th-minute substitute during City’s 5-0 victory against Huddersfield in the FA Cup third round.
The 32-year-old, who took the captain’s armband as he came on, set up Jeremy Doku for his team’s fifth goal.
"Kevin must know how much the people love him," Guardiola said in his post-match press conference. "He's incredible.
"Kevin, until he decides to leave or retires, will forever be one of the most beloved players. We are really pleased for him."
De Bruyne was sidelined after tearing his hamstring during City’s 3-0 win against Burnley on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Having already struggled with a hamstring injury during the UEFA Champions League final in May, De Bruyne underwent surgery to rectify the issue.
Guardiola subsequently urged caution when it came to the midfielder’s comeback, suggesting he may not immediately return to playing 90 minutes.
"I said before that he needs to accumulate training sessions more than games," he said.
"At Newcastle we have another chance and then two weeks to have some good training in Abu Dhabi."
City’s next match is against Newcastle in the Premier League on January 13, and will be shown live on TNT Sports 1.
The team then have a break before their FA Cup fourth round encounter on January 27 or 28.
