West Ham have been eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round after a disappointing defeat to Championship side Bristol City. David Moyes’ side, who had been held to a 1-1 draw in the original tie, fell to a third-minute opener from Tommy Conway at Ashton Gate. The Hammers’ woes deepened after the restart when Said Benrahma was sent off as Bristol held on for a memorable win.

West Ham crashed out of the FA Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Bristol City in a third-round replay.
Tommy Conway, who scored the equaliser in the return fixture to force a replay, opened the scoring after just three minutes.
After a slow start, West Ham grew into the game and had big chances to equalise through Maxwel Cornet and Danny Ings.
Minutes into the second half, Said Benrahama showed a lack of discipline when he was shown a straight red.
Down to 10 men, West Ham failed to find a route back into the game and were consequently eliminated.
Bristol City will face either Nottingham Forest or Blackpool in the fourth round, who are involved in a replay on Wednesday.
The hosts were firing on all cylinders from the off and it only took them three minutes into the replay to lead the tie for the first time.
Ings thought he was through on goal down one end, but goalkeeper Max O'Leary hoofed the ball down the other end of the pitch which Konstantinos Mavropanos helped on with a sloppy back pass for Conway to intercept, round Lukasz Fabianski and slot the ball into an empty net.
West Ham started the game poorly but gradually grew into the contest and had chances to draw level before the break.
Cornet and Ings both had big chances to get the Hammers on the board but lacked conviction in front of goal.
Early in the second half, West Ham found themselves a man down when Benrahma carelessly kicked out at Joe Williams following a strong challenge on the Algerian.
West Ham came closest to finding an equaliser when Thomas Soucek’s first-time effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by O’Leary.
The Robins, who were superior to West Ham all game, managed to hold on to end a winless run of 12 encounters with the Hammers.

Talking point - A big chance missed for The Hammers

David Moyes’ side have generally been brilliant this campaign and with either Nottingham Forest or Blackpool awaiting the winner of this one in the fourth round, Hammers’ fans will certainly feel it’s a big chance missed to reach the last 16 of the competition.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t rely on their second-string side to get the business done on Tuesday with plenty of their big stars out of action.
West Ham fans finally got a taste of silverware last campaign when they got their hands on the UEFA Europa Conference League, but their 44-year wait for the FA Cup goes on.

Player of the Match - Tommy Conway (Bristol City)

He forced the replay with an equaliser at the London Stadium last week and stole the show at Ashton Gate to give City the lead in the early stages.
He took his goal well too, capitalising on Mavropanos’ mistake and showed real composure to slot the ball into an empty net from a difficult angle.

Match Highlights

3’ - GOAL!! BRISTOL CITY 1-0 WEST HAM (CONWAY): Ings thinks he's through on goal but is beaten to the ball by goalkeeper Max O'Leary, who hoofs the ball down the other end of the pitch. Konstantinos Mavropanos picks the ball up and plays a really sloppy back pass which Conway intercepts, before rounding Lukasz Fabianski and slotting the ball into an empty net. What a start for the hosts!
25’ - TWO BIG CHANCES FOR CORNET! Benrahma whips in a fine cross for Cornet at the front post who gets to the ball first but Cameron Pring makes a brilliant interception to deny him. West Ham get the ball in the box again which Soucek takes a swipe at, miscues his effort and the ball drops to Cornet again, who this time puts it wide. They should be level!
36’ - BIG CHANCE INGS! Benrahma pulls the ball back to Ings who shifts the ball onto his left foot but scuffs his shot as it's put behind for a corner. West Ham should be level, at least.
49’ - IT'S ALL KICKING OFF! Benrahma kicks out Williams after the latter makes another strong challenge. Every player on the pitch immediately sprints over to the incident. The fans want Benrahma off. There was an ill feeling between these teams going into this tie after the initial game, and now it could get tasty.
51’ - BENRAHMA IS SENT OFF! The fans wanted it, and they got it. Referee Darren England sends the West Ham player packing and the visitors are down to ten! What a chance this is for Bristol City.
68’ - WHAT A SAVE! Cornet delivers a low cross for Soucek to hit first time, but O'Learly makes a fantastic reaction save to tip the ball over!
