After missing two shooting opportunities and a free header at the end of the first half, Hasselbaink slotted in his first Buddies goal after 50 minutes following his summer move from relegated Hamilton.
Steven Thompson, who missed a penalty in the 0-0 draw at Dunfermline, had lofted a volley over and Gary Teale drilled an effort wide for the hosts, while the Dons had half chances through Josh Magennis and Scott Vernon but were distinctly second best.
Cammy Bell's fingertip save from Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings earned Kilmarnock a point in an entertaining but goalless Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash at Rugby Park.
Both sides produced some excellent passing moves with Motherwell edging possession but a clinical edge was missing.
Motherwell were not helped by a thigh injury to Michael Higdon, which saw Bob McHugh forming a youthful strike partnership with Jamie Murphy.
Garry O'Connor netted a last-gasp goal to clinch Hibernian's first win against Inverness - at the 10th attempt.
The striker scored deep into stoppage-time at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium to secure a 1-0 win, leaving Inverness at the bottom of the SPL as the only team with no points.
Inverness' Gregory Tade and Hibernian's Ian Murray both had goals ruled out for offside, while Greg Tansey hit the post late on for Inverness when both sides searched for the winner.
