Como 1-3 AC Milan - Serie A result as Adrien Rabiot brace and Christopher Nkunku penalty sink Cesc Fabregas' side

It was a tale of two goalkeepers on the shores of Lake Como as AC Milan snatched three points from Cesc Fabregas’ side thanks largely to an Adrien Rabiot brace and Mike Maignan’s heroics in goal.

Como dominated the opening hour and Marc-Oliver Kempf’s goal looked set to be the defining moment of a sleepy first-half when the defender rose highest to head past a helpless Maignan, with Milan undone by the hosts’ deft short-corner routine.

Lucas Da Cunha had a golden opportunity to double their lead just before the break but Maignan somehow stopped his point-blank shot, and came to the visitors’ rescue once again moments later when Anastasios Douvikas’s effort required a fingertip save.

Yet that shook the rest of Milan’s team into remembering they were also part of the contest, and out of nowhere Christopher Nkunku was given the opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot when Kempf collided with Rabiot off the ball, the contact light but enough to prevent VAR overturning the decision.

There was a hint of fortune around Nkunku’s poorly placed spot-kick too, as Buzet dived the correct way but allowed the ball to squeeze under him and in for the equaliser.

There was nothing lucky about Milan’s second goal though, as Rafael Leao interrupted an otherwise unremarkable performance with a sumptuous dink to Rabiot, who took one touch, turned and fired past Buzet to give the hosts an unlikely lead.

And though Nico Paz went close afterwards, Rabiot had the final say and caused more questions to be asked of Buzet when he found space on the edge of the box late in normal time and rifled a low shot past the Frenchman to seal the win.

Despite Milan playing far from their best, the win keeps them only three points behind Inter and snaps a winless streak that threatened to extend to three games while Como remain in the European places but miss the opportunity to go six points clear of seventh-placed Atalanta.

The referee's whistle makes it official, it was far from Milan's best performance of the season but they've come away with three vital points rather comfortably in the end.

Though Rabiot's second has killed the contest really.

Rabiot seals it for Milan! The midfielder gets a bit of space on the edge of the penalty area, opens fire with a low shot and it beats Buzet, possibly via a deflection. After Maignan's heroics at the other end, if that didn't take another touch Buzet must be disappointed that, though it was a sharp finish by Rabiot.

He beats Gabbia to a ball cut back from the byline by Caqueret, and at full stretch to volley the ball hope, can't quite get the connection to truly trouble Maignan.

If Milan do hold on - and Como have struggled to create openings in the last few minutes - they will still have only lost one game all season and snapped their winless streak that threatened to extend to three games.

With no European football to worry about and only three points behind Inter, they remain a favourite for the title. Their not playing like Italian champions, but they're scoring points like one.

Sergi Roberto and Nicolas Kuhn are both on for Como while Allegri has thrown Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Smeuele Ricci into the fray.

Leao, Fofana, Moreno and Vojvoda have all departed.

Milan have been pretty dreadful today outside of Maignan but this was remarkable.

Como have controlled possession for most of the game but they're starting to leave gaps at the back. Leao almost breaks through one of them, but is cut off by a Como player.

Nkunku was given the chance to start but hasn't really taken it, he was lucky to score his penalty and has done little else.

Jesus Rodriguez has been one of Fabregas' key attackers this season and takes over from Baturina on the wing for the last half-hour. Maxence Caqueret is also on, for Da Cunha who had that brilliant chance just before Rabiot won the penalty.

It's sensational from Paz! Como want a foul but the referee lets the ball run to the midfielder, who opens fire from outside the area and is only inches from equalising.

WHAT. A. GOAL!!! It's a sensational sucker-punch by Rafael Leao and Rabiot, as the forward drives at the backline then dinks the ball to Rabiot who timed his run perfectly.

Rabiot takes one touch to control, then rifles a shot past Butez and somehow, Milan lead!

Paz looked to keep the ball himself and drive at goal, but he would've been better off finding a teammate as Milan read the young Argentine like a book and intercept.

Como have made an even better start to the second half than the first! The hosts pull it back to Paz who curls his shot from inside the penalty area across Maignan, yet once again the Frenchman is equal to the shot.

Maximo Perrone is bundled over battling with Davide Bartesaghi but similarly to the Fofana claim in the first half, it's waved away by the Pompeii-born referee.

In the other backline, Diego Carlos has replaced Kempf.
