AC Milan 1-0 AS Roma result - Strahinja Pavlovic goal secures Serie A win for Rossoneri

AC Milan took the win in San Siro as they beat AS Roma 1-0, marking their sixth Serie A victory to jump over the visitors into third in the table.

Strahinja Pavlovic scored the only goal of the match in the 39th minute off a stellar run from Rafael Leao to seal the deal for the Rossoneri.

It was Roma who looked the better in the early stages of the match as they created chance after chance to challenge Mike Maignan. Milan were getting glimpses of possession, but it was fruitless for most of the first half.

But Leao showed a burst of speed to run the ball past centre-back Evan Ndicka, and as Mile Svilar went left to defend, Pavlovic found himself in clean air. Leao cut it back, and the Serbian planted his shot into the centre of the net.

The pressure was on now in San Siro, and Milan looked revived as they tackled the remainder of the first half. Youssouf Fofana nearly made it two right in front of the goal but he sent his shot wide.

When the teams came back onto the pitch after half-time, the story was the same - Milan were immediately on the front foot.

Roma looked increasingly desperate as the hosts kept the pressure on, and substitutions did not change much for Roma.

They had a huge chance eight minutes from time following a handball by Fofana, but Paulo Dybala's penalty was saved by Maignan to roars from the crowd.

Both teams now sit on 21 points in the table alongside Internazionale, with Napoli on top by one.

Roma are desperate for any play at all now, they move forward with what seems to be their last attempt but it gets bounced back to Tsimikas, and it is all over.

Pavlovic and Leao earn Milan a full three points, and they now leapfrog the visitors by goal difference.

The whistle goes but it isn't the end quite yet, free kick to Milan as Gabbia gets taken down, Mancini is fouled for dissent.

It's Tsimikas, they pass Leao cramping on the ground, ball goes to Wesley, but Roma's header goes wide.

Leao limps off for Fikayo Tomori.

The referee is wading into a crowd of angry players now, Bailey attempted to head in a cross but four come together in a tangle and Bartesaghi found himself at the bottom of the pile.

It is quickly resolved, and it will be four minutes of added time.

Corner Roma, Modric tips it above a Roma player and takes the ball up the pitch. The players are scrapping for the ball and Saelemaekers goes down. Allegri subs on Zachary Athekame in his place.

Yellow for Hermoso as Roma are no doubt riled up now. A chain of subs now as Ruben Loftus-Cheek goes up for Nkunku for Milan, then Roma take off Hermoso for Kostas Tsimikas and Dybala for Tommaso Baldanzi.

Dybala lines up, San Siro holds their breath AND SAVE FROM MAIGNAN! Dybala goes right, and Maignan is picture-perfect as he makes the crucial block.

Whistles abound Pellegrini prepares to take. It comes off the wall, and it is handball off Fofana!

Pellegrini takes a shot right on the edge of the box as Fofana slides in. He kicks his left foot right into Fofana's studs and the Milan midfielder gets booked. Free kick right on the edge.

Dangerous free kick 25 years out, it is cleared by Roma and Milan sends it high above the goal.

Celik comes off for Artem Dovbyk.

Work for the referee as Wesley takes down Saelemaekers. The players are getting agitated on the pitch now.

Modric takes the free kick and Celik collides into Leao. It was a real attempt at the ball but it is another yellow nonetheless.

Dangerous play from Milan as Bartesaghi takes a shot on Svilar who finds himself out of position, then Ricci and Leao take the rebound but Hermoso blocks it!

Wesley on the left, pass to Cristante and moves it across the pitch to Bailey, the cross is cleared by De Winter.

Ricci on the counter, but runs out of room as he is chased down by Mancini. Slight error as it is given to Milan. Mancini throws his hands up at the decision.

Cross from Wesley, but Roma don't have the height. It goes out to a corner, which Maignan catches easily.

Pellegrini spots a gap between the defense, but it is another easy save along the ground for Maignan.

Gabbia goes down for a second as his studs get caught in the grass, but he appears to be fine. Corner now for the visitors, ball comes off De Winter, poor clearance by Leao and it goes back to Roma. They just can't seem to keep much possession in this half.

Taken by Bartasaghi, Mancini clears for Roma. There is a scramble as the ball comes back to Roma's box but no result.

Good play down the wing from Nkunku, finds Ricci who fires off a shot - saved by Svilar.
