Lazio 1-1 Roma - Matias Soule's glorious equaliser denies Lazio and extends Giallorossi's unbeaten run in Serie A to 16 games

A sublime goal from Matias Soule earned Roma a point in the Derby della Capitale and extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to 16 games.

Soule equalised in the 69th minute after Alessio Romangoli, a boyhood Lazio fan who started his career at Roma, headed the Eagles in front at the start of the second half.

A tense, occasionally spiteful derby ebbed and flowed throughout, though Lazio created more clear chances and would have won but for a number of excellent saves by Mile Svilar.

There was nothing he could do in the 47th minute when Romagnoli met Luca Pellegrini’s inviting free-kick with a superb header.

Roma, who had been passive until that point, came to life and were level when Soule curled a stunning shot from 25 yards that hit the underside of the bar and bounced into the net.

The result means that Lazio and Roma stay in sixth and seventh respectively, but both remain right in the hunt for a Champions League place.

Soule scored a spectacular equaliser after Alessio Romagnoli had headed Lazio in front, while Svilar made three or four top-class saves to deny Lazio.

Pedro's excellent corner is headed across his own area by Kone towards Noslin, who completely misses his kick and knocks the ball wide with his standing leg. That was a great chance, and there would have been mayhem had he scored because Roma thought the corner was wrongly awarded.

Pellegrini's wicked cross is sliced towards his own goal by Ndicka. Svilar makes a brilliant reaction save but the ball runs loose to Dia in front of goal. He slips over and, though he eventually gets a shot off, Svilar is able to block it with his left hand. That's a terrific double save.

A poor clearance goes straight to Pedro, who whips an early shot from 25 yards that is pushed round the post by the diving Svilar. Pedro, who had an unhappy time at Roma, would love to score the winner.

Roma were hopeless until they went 1-0 down, but now they look the likelier winners. Saelemakers cuts inside from the left before dragging a shot across goal and well wide.

After a split-second of uncertainty, the referee confirmed the goal. And what a goal!

He cuts inside from the left, uses the overlapping Pellegrini by not using him and hits a curler that goes a few yards wide of the far post.

Celik seizes on a poor dfensive header from Zaccagni and tries to veer a shot into the far corner with the outside of the right foot. He doesn't get enough on it and Mandas makes a comfortable save.

Pellegrini sends Soule flying and is booked.
