Inter continued their perfect start to 2024 with a 1-0 win over Juventus at San Siro to move four points clear at the top of Serie A.

The hosts dominated the game's early goings but Simone Inzaghi's side struggled to create any chances of note against a stern Juve defence.

Dusan Vlahovic's poor touch squandered the visitors' best chance of the first half and they were made to pay just minutes later when Gatti bundled Nicolo Barella's cross into his own net to give the Nerazzurri a deserved lead at the break.

As the game opened up after the break, both sides had good opportunities to score, with Hakan Calhanoglu striking the post and Gatti firing wide with a fierce strike from the edge of the box.

Inter should have put the game out of sight late on but a superb pair of saves from Wojciech Szczesny - to deny Barella's volley and Marko Arnautovic's effort from point-blank range - kept faint Juve hopes alive.

But Massimiliano Allegri's side were unable to find a late equaliser, losing for the first time this year and dropping vital points in the race for the Scudetto.

The whistle goes and Inter hold on for a huge three points in the Derby d'Italia. Gatti's first-half own goal is the difference between the two sides but it now means that the Nerazzuri move four points clear at the top of the league.

Mkhitaryan deflects Chiesa's cross behind and Juve have a later corner. It's Chiesa who delivers the set piece but Inter do enough and launch the ball clear.

The former Southampton man comes on for McKennie as Juve make another late change.

A remarkable save from the Juve keeper to keep their faint hopes alive. Dumfries low cross finds Arnautovic unmarked in the middle but the Austrian's strike is somehow kept out by Szczesny with a remarkable save.

The visitors have struggled all game to create clear-cut opportunities but need to find something late on here to at least rescue a point.

Arnautovic does well to win a cheap free-kick after a foul from Locatelli but the delivery in is poor from Calhanoglu and Juventus can clear.

Thuram does make way in the end, with Arnautovic replacing him up front.

So close to a second after a great counter from Inter. Dimarco's floated cross finds Barella at the back post but it's a superb reflex save from Szczesny to deny the Italian's well-struck volley.

Gatti's own goal may have put Juve behind but the centre-back is so close to making amends as his fierce right-footed strike goes just wide with Sommer well-beaten to his right.

Yildiz and Kostic make way for Chiesa and Weah as the visitors look for an equaliser.

The Juve keeper comes off his line well to punch clear Dimarco's cross but is down now having collided with Calhanoglu.

Bremer wins the header from the corner but Vlahovic, with his back to goal, can only fire over the bar with a speculative overhead-kick attempt.

The game has really opened up in the last few minutes as Inter come forward now. Calhanoglu's ball from the left finds Thuram at the back post but the Frenchman can't quite find Dimarco who had made a superb run towards the penalty spot.
