Lecce 0-3 Juventus: Dusan Vlahovic double helps Juve move top of Serie A

Juventus moved to the top of Serie A with a 3-0 win over Lecce, but they were made to work hard for their win by the stubborn home side.

Dusan Vlahovic’s brace and a later goal from Bremer were enough to give Juventus all three points as they sent a message to Inter Milan who are currently concentrating on the Italian Super Cup.

An uneventful first half rarely threatened to explode into life, but it was the home side who had the better of the openings as Nikola Krstovic had two half chances that he could not convert.

His first effort went wide of the post and then when he got on the end of a well-placed cross, his attempt to open the scoring went over the bar.

Despite their lofty position in the league, Juventus had no answer when it came to breaking down Lecce’s defence in the first period and they were often left frustrated as numerous attacks broke down.

Juventus began the second half with a little more purpose, and they were unfortunate not to take the lead when Weston Mckennie’s header was kept out following a well-taken corner.

The away team would go close again just moments later but another header, this time from Vlahovic, was unable to hit the net as he failed to connect fully - sending the effort wide.

It was clear Juventus were getting on top and their industry in the final third was finally rewarded when Vlahovic hit the net. A hopeful cross into the Lecce box was met by the Serbian forward and his scuffed volley put Juve in front.

Moments later, Vlahovic doubled his tally as he was in the right place at the right time. Another McKennie header looked like it was heading into the far corner but Vlahovic, like a true poacher, made sure to put the game beyond Lecce.

A late goal from Bremer put the result beyond doubt.

Juventus are enjoying a stellar campaign and they are making Inter think long and hard about how to approach their games. Both sides are fully aware of what it takes to win a fascinating title race in Italy.

No one would have expected a 3-0 score line at half-time but this Juventus side are capable of winning ugly and that was in full effect against a hard done by Lecce side. Once Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring, the game was effectively over and that is a sign of just how efficient this Juventus team are. Once they hit full power, they could be the team to catch in Serie A.

The Serbian forward was not at his best but in front of goal, he was as hungry as ever and that is what matters. His two goals could not have been more different but they were vital in ensuring that Juventus moved to the top of the table.
