Proposal to change Napoli stadium to ‘Stadio Diego Maradona’

An Italian politician has put forward a bold proposal to change the name of Napoli’s stadium to ‘Stadio Diego Maradona’.
The Argentine legend lit up Italian football during a seven-year spell at Napoli – leading them to a maiden Serie A title – with Antonio del Piano now suggesting the club’s San Paolo stadium could be given a rebrand.
Del Piano is running for office in Naples’ communal elections in June, per Goal.com. His proposal is to buy the stadium, transform it into a modern arena and change the name to reflect Maradona’s status in the city.
"The stadium is falling apart, it is in terrible conditions. We need a proposal which both the club and commune can agree on," the politician told Corriere del Mezzogiorno.
Maradona already has one stadium – Estadio Diego Armando Maradona in Buenos Aires – named after him.
