West Ham striker Mauro Zarate must pay Lazio €5.9m
Lazio have received an unexpected windfall after Argentinian striker Mauro Zarate lost his legal battle with the club and must now pay them €5.9m.
The striker had his contract terminated in 2013 and ever since then has been embroiled in a series of court cases.
A FIFA arbitration panel have ruled that Zarate was in the wrong when he signed for Argentine club Velez Sarsfield in 2013 with a year left to run on his contract at Lazio.
The Argentine must therefore pay €5.3m compensation plus interest.
28-year-old Zarate, who has played for Birmingham City, Inter, and QPR in the past, can now appeal but has just 30 days to pay the Biancocelesti.
