Messina have sacked coach Bruno Giordano after slipping into the Serie A relegation zone. The Sicilian side have not won a league game for three months, leaving them 12 games without a victory.

On Sunday they lost 2-1 at home to bottom club Ascoli, for whom it was only their second win this season.
Giordano had only been in charge since the start of the season, and a plea from the players to president Pietro Franza to keep faith with Giordano fell on deaf ears.
Alberto Cavasin expected to replace him, with the club already having begun negotiations with the former Lecce and Treviso boss.
Cavasin should be in charge in time for the weekend's 'Messina Straits derby' against Reggina, who are level with them on 16 points.
