Parma appoint Pioli
ByTNT Sports
Parma have named Stefano Pioli as their new coach, the Serie A club announced on its website. Pioli, 40, replaces Mario Berretta, who quit last month to take charge of Siena.
Pioli has never coached in Serie A. His previous experience includes three years in Serie B, first with Salernitana and then Modena, whom he guided to the semi-finals of the promotion playoffs earlier this month.
During the 1990s Parma were one of Italy's strongest sides, twice finishing runners-up in Serie A as well as winning the UEFA Cup in 1995 and 1999. They have struggled to hold on to their top-flight status since the collapse of parent company Parmalat in December 2003, however.
Last season they finished 10th in the division.
