Reds increase Benayoun bid
ByTNT Sports
West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun looks set to move to Liverpool after they apparently submitted a £4.5 million bid for the Israeli. The Reds had a £3 million offer rejected last week, leading Benayoun to stall over signing a new five-year deal.
This has prompted the Hammers to cancel contract negotiations with the former Racing Santander man, who admitted to being "flattered" by the interest.
"I'm honoured a club like Liverpool is interested in me," the 27-year-old said. "I'm contracted to West Ham so we will have to see what happens."
West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson was due to offer the player a five-year, £13 million deal that would have taken his weekly wage to £40,000 per week. But the East London club are expected to wait until he returns from Israel in two weeks until reviving talks - assuming the player wants to.
West Ham target Craig Bellamy could be offered in exchange for the player.
