Davids made his debut for Ajax in 1991, a period that coincided with a successful period in the club's history both in domestic competition and in winning the 1995 UEFA Champions League.

"Ajax have reached agreement with Tottenham Hotspur about the immediate transfer of Edgar Davids," Ajax said in a statement. "The 33-year-old midfielder has signed a contract with Ajax until 30th June 2008."

He has struggled to earn a place in the starting line-up for Tottenham Hotspur this season, despite featuring heavily in last season's run to a European place.
