Berner joins Blackburn

Blackburn have taken Swiss defender Bruno Berner to Ewood Park on an 18-month loan deal.

Eurosport.com exclusively revealed last week that Berner had been handed a trial by Rovers boss Mark Hughes, and he has impressed enough to earn a deal.

The move is for a small undisclosed transfer fee and includes an option of another year at the end of the 18-month period.

Left back Berner, who played for Switzerland in Euro 2004, is 29 years old and considered suprlus to requirements at the club.

Rovers sold full back Jay McEveley to Derby County on Monday for an inital 600 000 pounds, while Lucas Neill has also left for West Ham.

Berner will face a fight for a place in the Rovers team after signing from Liverpool Stephen Warnock impressed on his debut in the FA Cup at the weekend.
