The Premier League returns on TNT Sports with our first point of call at Villa Park, as Unai Emery's Aston Villa take on Newcastle United.
After a top-four finish two years ago and a UEFA Champions League quarter-final appearance last campaign, Aston Villa only narrowly missed out on a return to Europe’s premier competition on goal difference last time out.
The team that pipped them to the post? Their very opponents on the opening weekend this season: Newcastle United.
The Magpies had a season to remember in 2024/25, ending a 55-year trophy drought to lift the Carabao Cup, as well as clinching a Champions League place at Villa’s expense.
The transfer window has not been kind to Newcastle, however, with star striker Alexander Isak pushing for an exit and a spate of players having turned down a move to St James' Park.
Manager Eddie Howe will be hoping to put all that behind him for their Premier League opener against a Villa side likely to challenge them for a top-four place again this season.
