'Everyone said bulls*** about us last year' - Leny Yoro confident Manchester United will silence critics in ‘revenge’ season

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro believes this season “will be different” as the club look to recover from their lowest Premier League finish since 1974. The defender says United are out for “revenge” after winning just 11 games and recording only 42 points domestically. They have enjoyed a strong pre-season and begin their Premier League campaign against Arsenal.

Despite finishing a lowly 15th in last season’s Premier League, Leny Yoro is confident Manchester United will bounce back and silence their critics when the new campaign kicks off.
The spotlight is often on United, but it will be particularly bright coming off the back of what was a disastrous season for the club.
Ruben Amorim’s side finished with just 42 points in the Premier League. A run to the UEFA Europa League final gave Amorim and his players a chance to salvage something from their efforts, but a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur typified the campaign.
It also left United without European football for the first time in more than a decade. Yoro understands and accepts the criticism that was aimed at the club but has backed things to "be different" going forward.
"We are a big club," Yoro said. "There are a lot of people that want us to fail and we know that. But there are also a lot of people that want us to do it, to do great things. We just focus on the fans, you know.
"We don't care about what they say outside, about the media, everyone said bulls*** about us last year.
"But I understand because we didn't do really well. This season will be different, I hope for us. We don't need to listen to this and just be focused on ourselves."

The early signs in pre-season have, at least, been better. Amorim arrived after the 2024/25 season had already begun following the departure of Erik ten Hag, so did not have as much time on the training pitch as would have been ideal to bring players up to speed with his system.
However, United looked sharper all over the pitch during wins over West Ham and Bournemouth on their pre-season tour of America, while there were also positives to take from their 2-2 draw against Everton.

That was the first time new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have played together, with both impressing and showing why United forked out a reported £130 million to bring them to Old Trafford.
As the club begin what Yoro describes as a "revenge" season against Arsenal on August 17, the defender has challenged every player to bring their best.
"When you play for Manchester United, you need to have the mindset of being the best version of yourself," Yoro added.
"I think what we did last season was a mistake for us. When you're Manchester United, you cannot be at this position. The fans know it, everyone knows it. I think we understand this.
"This season will be different for us. It will be like a revenge from last season. We need to do better."
